Default California Smog question

My brother in law has to get his car smogged. It's a 97 DX HB He has a cheap APC intake and a universal muffler welded on, will he be ok for the visual inspection? I live in AZ so I don't know exactly what they look at. Don't bust on him for cheap parts, he's only 16.

he wont pass with the apc intake unless it has a carb excempt sticker for. the best thing to do is just put the stock intake back on. no questions no troubles. about the welded muffler he will be alright, as long as his cat converter is still on the car with the o2 sensor hooked up. just tell him to make sure that all smog devices are hooked up. basically go there stock. tell him to never get rid of those stock stuff.

On 96 and up (OBDII) cars in Califorina do they just plug in the smog computer to the cars computer? They have started doing that here in Nevada and they have just stopped doing visual inspections all together.

Nope....there stingy asses here. The put the sniffer in the tail pipe. Hook up the to computer, check timing, check the gas cap.....what else am I missing.....well they look for everything like the charcol canister and what not as well.

If you have anything modified you will be sent to a smog ref (other than cat-back) and he will inspect and verify that it is legal to have on your vehicle.

And no, the APC intake will not pass smog.

aahhhh he used the A word-APC my ear oh my ear!! hehe...they dont like anything shiney under the hood. tell him and all ur friends why guys at H-T invest so much money on authentic merchandise instead of APC and Ractive and stuff is becuz they do extensive research and works with the california government under the vehicle codes to ensure we get that carb sticker on there...GReddy is a really example

what im afraid of is all the CARB exempt mods that were made in the previous years may keep cars from passing the smog inspections this year

Hey, I had a problem with smog last year and was wondering if any of you had/heard about this...

I took my car to a local spee-dee or something to get smogged. I dropped it off during work, and had my friend take me back.. then, 5 hours later I returned to pick up my car. (95 civic hatch dx) They said they couldn't smog it cause the carb number on my DC header didn't match my engine code. They said the carb # on my header referred to the header for a "2.2 liter Honda"... it's a stock D15B7.

I got pissed cause my car was there all day, and not a thing was done... and I asked him.. what the hell was going on, cause a 2.2 header wouldn't even fit my ride, etc..

anyways, did DC mess up the carb codes, or was he just being an *******? He said he looked in the book, and even called the "air resource" (or something) board to confirm it.

peaces.

i think the wrong numbers were on the header or the tech. made a mistake reading the motor sizes..i can t see a header made for a 1.5 ltr also fitting a 2.2

My bro-in-law lives in California. I live in AZ. We have smog checks but theyre not as strict as Ca. Thanks for the advice everyone. I think he asked around and found some oil change place that won't sweat the intake. But I've told him all along to keep every stock piece he removes just in case, everytime I help with his car he gets a lecture.
