Buying half a car for a swap

Buying half a car for a swap
I'm still looking for a different engine for my 95 lx.
Found a pick and pull yard with a couple very promising complete engine cars. They where rear-ended or t-boned.
The weird bit is that this yard dose not sell a complete car as they don't want to be liable if you get one back on the road. These cars where sold as scrap I guess.
Anyway, I can buy the front half of a car, so I still get all the needed bits for a swap.
I'm not going for boost or a super fast car. I just want to be able to pass someone on the highway and drive this car for another 300k.
I pulled spark plugs and checked cylinders with my bore-scope camera. Turned them over with a breaker bar.
They seemed ok, but I'm rebuilding which ever one I go with.

Re: Buying half a car for a swap
Go with the F22 or F23. And either do a full F swap or a F2B. You'll have plenty torque for daily driving, and you'll be pretty quick. It all depends on what your goal is. Don't waste money on a D series, unless you turbo the thing. Lol.
Good luck

sorry but a F22/23 is a waste of money and time. Nice try though...lol

Of all those engines he posted the F is the best choice for what he is looking for. Don't see F22/23 being a waste of money though...if anything a D series is a waste of money. But to each his own i guess..lol.

^^ To nv turbo
Like no, and the only f series thats worth a **** is the f20b.
None of those motors you posted will really get you up to speed quickly on the highway lol
And maybe try a different junkyard, if you have to buy a half clip of a car just get a swap.

Re: Buying half a car for a swap
So what you saying is he can build a D16 to make 300hp all motor?? All I'm saying is between those D series and F series he posted the F series is the best choice if it is indeed the only thing he can get. He didn't say he's doing a all motor build now did he? He clearly says he gonna rebuild whatever motor. Also I don't see any reason why he couldn't build a 300hp F22/F23, pricey yes but not impossible. Have you built any 300hp all motor? Most probably not...lol

Re: Buying half a car for a swap
So you’re saying that he should just go all ***** out and f swap it huh. Even though he has all his d series axles, ecu, mounts and harness? Just buy all new for the f series right, while rebuilding it. Cause it’s ******* Christmas right

Like i said..to each his own. Don't know why you hating on F series when it clearly has much more potential than any D series...but again..to each his own.

Look man you stick with what you want and know, don't mean you have to downgrade or bash on someone that mentions anything but little D16's. You of all people should know that if you take that turbo setup away..its just another slow D16. But good luck to you and OP with whatever you do.

derps all around. op- the best choice there if rebuilding would be the d16y8 car. it is similar to the z6 engine you originally planned on, and the newest d motor that will go directly into your car. as others have said, a 94-01 acura integra engine and transmission are an easy option as well, as you can use all oem parts to swap the engine and trans into your civic.

Bickering, bickering, bickering.....
For ease, since you are not going for a super fast car (your words). I would do the D16Y8, not worry about rebuilding it (was running when it got t-boned, rear ended) and while you are there, grab the cam shaft of the D16A6. Then you could rebuild your D15B7 but throw the D16A6 camshaft into it and turn it into the Beast7 build with a tune on Crome.
From my understanding the D15Beast7 build provided quite a nice bump to the 1.5 liter. This will give you the extra oomph for the highway as well as keep the best fuel economy. And it's very gentle on the wallet.
Edit Addendum: Looking it up, with stock bottom end the D15Beast7 tuned gets about 120 WHP with a decent torque curve. If you rebuilt with high compression pistons, you could be close to 130ish WHP with a good tune. If you want solid torque you will need to switch to a DOHC setup aka B series.
