burning oil

Default burning oil

well for some reason my car seems to be burning a lil....actually a lot more then usual. Every time i take off i see a nice cloud of smoke behind me and i dont know whats wrong with it? is there anything common that can cause this? oh btw its a 2000 sir

it could be bad oil control rings, or valve guide seals

Those are the only things that cause that kind of oil consumption. Rebuild it or get a new block is all that can be done really.

i wouldn't feel too bad, my girlfriend's EM1 (equivalent to your SiR) burns about a quart or more every other week and it's got 78,000 miles on it. Just keep an eye on your oil and save up to do a nice rebuild.

Compression test the cylinders and, if compression is low for any cylinder(s), then do a leak down test. Bad piston rings or a bad head gasket will be produce low compression, whereas bad valve seals will not. This way you'll know what you're dealing with.
