Default bump stops (yes, searched)

Yes, I've already tried searching on this topic. Been trying to learn / read up on bump stops and figure out the purpose of cutting / trimming so I don't sound like a total retard making this post. From what I understand, you have to cut the bump stops (the amount depending on what lowering spring?) in order to allow for shock travel and so you don't "bottom out" so to speak?

Well I'm lookin at the Eibach Sportline papers they sent me with the springs and it says "Front Bump Stop Trim Bottom: 35mm" and same for the rear. Now to clarify, does that mean to cut off 35mm off the bottom or to cut off enough so you have 35mm of bump stop left? Yeah it sounds stupid but I know nothing about this **** and I want to do this the right way the first time. I don't want any problems / ride issues after getting it all installed.

Also, I read that it's better to take the bump stops off the shocks so you don't risk damaging the shaft and voiding warranties and all that. Now my Illuminas came with bump stops on the rears so I'm wondering if there's a certain spot on the shaft I have to put the bump stop back on? Or will it automatically get pushed to the right spot when the car is lowered / driven? Same with the fronts using the OEM ones.

Thanks in advance guys .
