if i swap the whole d17 rotating assembly out of a junkyard car that has been wrecked and use a d16 block and b7 head those parts should match

Re: budget build for auto x
Because displacement isn't the only thing you should care about. Stroking out a D16 would lower your redline, which cuts out the range where these motors are known for making most of their power, and that's all assuming you don't run into issues with the pistons poking too far above the deck and causing P2V issues. There's just not enough to gain from it for it to be worthwhile.

Re: budget build for auto x
How many events have you done with the current setup?
Why are you looking to turbo it? I'm just curious.
have you considered a simple B swap instead?
And to your original question. I'd take a looking a vitara piston/eagle rod build. Cheap, proven, and reliable.

Re: budget build for auto x
not looking for turbo right now. if i want turbo ill take the engine i make now put studs rods pistons w/e but right now if i can get a RUNNING d ill think about turbo later. I still have races to attend lol
this is my 3rd year right now 60 events maybe. the car has only 3 events on it but it feels stronnnnggggg
b swap is expensive and hard. with using my b7 head i dont even have to touch the wire harness or tune or anything if i don't run crazy high compression
BUDGET BUILD im not a millionaire i saved a few g's last summer working at a copper mine so now im spending it all at once

I definitely understand staying on a budget. If you plan to tune, I honestly wouldn't do anything other than an OEM rebuild. You'll get the full potential out of it, especially if you upgrade the cam.
