Default Broken and Stripped Mount Holes - Can this be fixed?

I bought a b18b1 for my 93 Si hatch and I noticed that the driver's side mount holes on the block are stripped and one is broken. There is also a broken mount hole on the rear of the block. Here's some pics...

Can these be fixed? If so, how (machine shop, etc)? Or am I SOL?

Please help and thanks for looking. If anyone has any ideas on what to do here, I would appreciate the feedback. Like everyone, I'm on a strict budget.

Its aluminum, so it can be fixed. The thing is if its cheaper to get a new block or not!

That's what I was thinking. How hard is it to take the head off and put it on another block?

It not hard but take this into consideration, once you pull the head you should get a new head gasket and new head studs, so it will cost more to get a new block and throw everything on that new one.

Long story, but I bought it from a local guy and now I'm screwed. I have to deal with what I have.

Roughly how much are head studs and a head gasket? Any special tools required to do this?

Yeah thats from inlinefour, I have connections and my prices are usually half of regular prices. I can probably find head studs for 90 and a quality head gasket for 40. So its close to 100.

Thanks for the replies! Sorry for the newb questions, but do you have to take the valves, springs, etc. out when you remove the head or can you leave those intact? I'm leaning towards buying another short block. What do these go for? Anything to look for when buying a used block (besides checking the mount holes!)?

You can find the blocks for around $150 or even cheaper. , no the valves stay in the head along with everything else.

Or you can pay $108 for ARP head studs for your engine with free S&H.

Great prices for the regular consumer, here... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=598414
Great customer service too.

That really sucks.. I hate scammers and this guy did it right in front of your face. You should have definately taken a closer look at the engine before you bought it, especially if that drivers side mount bracket was missing. who takes that off anyway?

The cost of the welding will probably be as much as a new block and the parts to assemble it. But if you have to pay for labor you're better of welding it and hoping it holds up.

Good luck

Yeah, it does suck. The mount was actually on with two screws loosely tightened. I bought a bunch of new Honda bolts to do it right and this was what I found.

What can I expect to pay for an assembled short block? Any other place to get one besides on local forums? That's where I got screwed.

Find machine shops around your area and ask around... Dont go to the cheapest place, go where you feel most comfortable.. You need this to be done right...

Im sure you can get good deals on your local forums but just be more attentive next time..
