broken hood release
Needed to change my battery on my car this weekend and when I pulled the hood release the plastic part snapped off!!! I'm thinking I could just epoxy it on and it would work. What are my other options for an easy fix ?
car is a 98 civic
It's just the plastic latch...the cable is fine

Re: broken hood release (loki2323)
My buddy's broke and we have tried all sorts of stuff to fix in including epoxy. for a while he just kept needle nose in his car. the only way to keep if from breaking that we found is to laminate some carbon fiber cloth on the back of it. fiberglass would prolly work too but we had some scrap carbon fiber laying around. Your best bet is to find another one in a junk yard.

The only way to do it is to replace the entire unit. Order it from the dealership and it's pretty much a bolt off-bolt on job. Follow the cable through the wheel well and across to the latch.
I think that may have been my first bolt on mod

There's a vehicle at my work that has the same problem. Mini vise-grips are clamped onto whatever is left of the release thing.

You could go to http://e-toolbox.com/ads/ and fix it the right way!

Re: broken hood release (kr)
I think the plastic wasnt as strong because of the cold weather. My dad said we can always rig up a piece of wood. Might give that a shot. I look around for the part online and the only thing I found was the entire thing. All I need is the plastic part at the very end.

Re: broken hood release (superpirate25)
i have the same problem and a set of pliers in the glove box as well... the installation of the entire assembly doesn't look that easy (or maybe it's just me)...
the problem is in the design of that stupid release latch.. in earlier model hondas, it would be hinged so it would pull towards and upwards... the late model hondas are no longer like this and you have to pull straight back.. problem is that most people tend to pull it upwards as well as towards hence all the breaks..

common problem. two of my friends keep the pliers in their glovebox bc they had the same problem. replace that hoe or keep some pliers around
