broken axel, wont go into reverse *urgent help*
ok, i was tryin to back out of a parking space today and i noticed i couldnt go into reverse...i was ok..i'll look at it when i got home(all other gears work) anyway i thought i might just have to change the tranny fluid and i'd be set but NO. i jack up the car and i see the boot at the end of the axel is torn. so that means broken axel right? do i have to replace the whole axel and will that fix my tranny...or is it possible that i broke a shift fork???!? HELP

Will the shifter physically not go into reverse? Or is it that your car will not actually back up while in reverse? If you just tore the boot, then you can either get a new axle or just a boot and repack the grease. But an axle will not cause your shifter not to go into reverse. Could be that your reverse gear is tore up, the fork/assembly is a little fubar'd etc.

On a level surface you fill it until it starts coming out of the hole

Re: (untitledsn41)
There was a post just today about it. Unbolt the fill hole (upper rear of tranny) and then get a 3 foot hose and funnel. Put the hose on the end of the funnel, then pour in the fluid until it spills out. Make sure your on a level surface too.

Re: (slambedcivic)
i just called up a local tranny guy and he told me to put some Power Punch in my tranny and the shold loosen it up. he also said it sounds like my linkage is all fuckered up. so tomorrow i will try and find an axle and i'll replace that. and while im under there i'll take a look at my linkage and make sure everything is tight. does that sound alright to do?

You didn't happen to look at the fluid you drained out? It can tell you a lot. No metal, great Very fine metal, ok Metal pieces, bad Metal chunks, SOL.

when i looked at the fluid it was almost solid black...but no metal shaving etc...reverse is starting to work fine right now i think it just needed to get lubricated
