break system question
i was replacing my sisters break pads on her 96 civic lx and i noticed that the right side break pad was all gone and the left side had about half of it left. why would one side use the pads up more? something wrong or is it fine?

sounds like a slidepin is stuck.
what you need to do is take the caliper back off, and there are 2 pins that should slide freely inside the caliper. one pin is all metal, and the other one has a little rubber sleeve on it. you might be able to break them loose, and work them a little, and they will be fine. it's best to take them out, and USING ONLY RAYBESTOS CALIPER GREASE (clear silicone, will stand up to heat, and won't swell the rubber seal, get it at a local parts store such as advance auto parts), clean off the slidepin with a rag (don't use any type of chemical like brake clean, or tb spray as it will also swell the seal) and re-lube it with the RAYBESTOS CLEAR GREASE.
if the one with the rubber piece is still stuck, it could be in the wrong place. try switching them, and if it's still stuck, you'll have to remove the rubber piece and put on a new one (get it from honda, it's cheap).
but please, don't use any other kind of grease, only the white tube of clear raybestos grease. good luck
