simple: don't gun the engine, don't redline it, drive it normally.

Re: Break in? (Lord Helmet)
keep the RPM's varied all the time, never let it sit at one RPM too long.
Otherwise there are so many theories. The most generally accepted is the easy on motor one, so I'll give you that.
First 300 miles dont rev over 3500
300-600 nothing over 4500
600-900 stay below vtec
900-1000, hit vtec and shift
1000+ have it at.

Hmmm, my motor was broken in with a quick little 5 mile drive to the track and then a nice 7 grand launch with a 50 shot outta the hole. 6.8@100mph in the 1/8th and a broken rear mount right after. That was of course before it was put in my car but no problems yet. I would just take it easy for a bit and change the oil regularly. Don't worry about it too much though. Not like you are really going to screw anything up if you hit VTEC within the first 1000 miles. Just a good idea to wait for things to settle in first. But this is just my opinion

Always warm it up first. Run around the block and then to check to make sure everything is seated right.
There is a great post about this in the All Motor board.
edit, you can also check this link out;

Re: (Vero)
You got mountains around you. Take it up a long hill and don't be afraid to get rough with the engine. Just don't bounce it off the redline like an idiot. When you go up a mountains you allow all of that oil in the engine to find its way to some places that it wouldn't normally sit on a flat. This way everything will seat just nicely, especially if ur gonna run synthetic after 500 miles. I'm taking my H22 out for a nice 2-3 hour drive once I make sure it runs fine, since its coming out of the shop for the first time since April on Friday. Yay! New engines are fun!

after you make sure there are no leaks or check engine lights and everything is good........ drive like you are going to drive all the time, if you drive hard normally drive it hard in the break in period. use cheap oil in the break in to ensure the rings "bite". DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC OILS IN BREAK IN!!!!!!! the oil is to slick and my cause problems with the rings bitting. have fun and drive it like you stole it!!!!!

don't know since you rebuilt it, but when i got my motor built. i was told to break it in the way i will be driving it...so i would go to the grocery store thinking i am at the track...lol

dont be stupid like i did.... even tho my motor wasnt rebuilt.. it was sitting for some time wich means rust got in the motor from condensation and when i put it in i romped the beoch.. now it burns oil like crazy...
DO NOT use synthetic oil at all for the first 7 thousand.. i dont car what anybody says.. my friend knows a guy that just had his 77 vette rebuilt and he used synthetic in the first 3 thousand.. ( second oil change ) and it burns oil because the rings didnt seat right..
just take it easy for 3-5 thousand miles do 5 oil changes to make shure u get all of the metal flakes that will be in the motor from being broken in.. one change at 25 miles then at 250 then at 1000 then at 3000.. then do ur normal oil changes at 3 thousand... but it takes between 10 and 20 thousand for a motor to be COMPLETELY broken in...
the easier you drive it in the beggining the longer it will last in the end
