Brake Cleaner? Painting calipers, kindly review my planned course of action.
Is there any places in the wheel well brake cleaner should not touch? I plan to clean up the calipers and drums with it ? Im guessing its super corrosive? So will it eat away at any thing rubber-ish? I plan for it to only get on the drums and calipers but if it gets on discs that should be okay too right ?
I hear this is serious stuff and it comes in spray can form.
This is my entire procedure:
-jack up front of car, put jack stands under front axle
-take off front winter wheels
-get a wire brush, brush around the calipers in front
-brush all sorts of brake dust and whatever I can get at, off.
-open garage door
-quick shot of water to rinse ( im doing this in my garage )
-let dry ( wait a few hours perhaps )
-Spray brake cleaner into wheel well at the calipers
**-let sit for 3 mins
-quick rinse again with water
-wait to dry
-bag off ( tape off / cover ) entire part of wheel well except for calipers
-apply 3 or 4 light coats of caliper paint, 10 minutes between coats
let that sit for 5 or 6 hours
bedtime
next day
-Apply 2 of these to the front
-take away jack stands
-now do the same exact process to the rear as I did to the front.
-Apply 2 more rims to the back
** = how long should I let the brake cleaner sit there?
Im a noob and I like to have confidence going into a project, especially when I paint stuff...
Last thing I tried to paint myself
Thanks for any help and input people give.

dont get brake cleaner on paint, brake cleaner wont eat up seals IMMEDIATLEY but will definitley brake them down. If you spray brake clean on a rubber glove it will melt it. Dont let brake clean sit on anything for too long, spray it and letting it dry is fine just dont soak it.

keep the cleaner off of your brake hoses... just as a precaution... better safe than sorry.
