so i bought this EK from canada (first time buying a car from canada), bringing it back through the border they told me i couldnt register it because it doesnt meet EPA and DOT standards. they let me through with the car, i got it home. customs said it needs a letter of conformity which the manufacture wont give me unless i have a canadian passport or drivers license. i dont have either. after hours on the phone with honda of canada/America i have no idea left what to do. on the EPA site the car seems to be cleared http://epa.gov/oms/imports/canadian/canlis97.htm
hopefully they will accept that, but as for the DOT i have no idea what to do about it.

I just got my letter of compliance from the EPA this week. Email them Imports@epa.gov and ask them about it. Here is a sample of what it looks like. You might have problems importing it from another country, did you research any of this before buying the car?

i didnt do any reasearch because i have a friend who CONSTANTLY buys cars from there and never runs into this issue. i need the letter from honda but they wont give it to me because i am not in possession of a candian passport or drivers license.

That doesn't make any sense. Your residency doesn't determine whether or not you can bring a vehicle into country. Being Canadian doesnt make your vehicle legal in the states.

i know right? its by far the most retarded thing ive dealt with. ive already emailed the email you gave me. im going to go give it one more shot with customs. im also going to try sending them my US passport and seeing what they do. if all fails.....i guess im gunna be screwed out of a clean car and 2k

You say "EK", but you need to be more specific. Is it actually an EK, or is it an EJ6/8? Is it a Civic, or a Domani, or an EL? These things all matter.
