what did you tap for the constant?

I had mine installed on a switch and it worked. When I did it from the radio, it was always on.

I wouldnt hook it up to the radio because then the backlight will always be on. Maybe its the bulb. If your radio works and the backilight doesnt work when it is tapped off the radio, then it may be the bulb

hook the wires straight up to your battery. If it still doesn't work take it back.

It doesn't matter. So it's like an "indigo" type of gauge, right? It should still work with a 12 volt power and a ground. If it isn't working, then the gauge is broken. Did you make sure the ground is a good one? Sometimes, you have to scrape a little paint off so it's contacting bare metal.
