Boggy car, not drivable. Throws CEL bu it just blinks?
Hello everyone. My car has bene plagued by CEL codes from a stock swap(d16y8). Okay, just installed a knock sensor to get rid of my last code. I reset the ecu and let the car warm up. I go for a drive and immeditaetly the car bogs. Let me describe: I give it gas and the idle drops slowly even while pressing ont he gas pedal, then BAm all of a sudden and half throttle it'll act normal and start moving. Kinda like a late response in throttle. It does this to the point where I have to put in the clutch rev it up then go. Then, it'll bog some more. Eventually after 2-3 minutes it'll throw a code. I go to check the code and nothing! The CEL just blinks, every 3 seconds forever. any ideas? PS: this did this before the knock sensor as well. majorly bummed
EDIT: forgot to mention, once the cel comes on and it goes into safe mode, car drives fine!

long blink or short blink? sounds like code 1 or 10. How is your fuel pressure?

ALSO, if it is code 10, yes my intake air temp is unpugged cus fo my cold air intake, but why the hell would that throw a code? and i don't think that woudl cause the boggy action going on

10 is IAT, which shouldn't make your car run like that. Did you replace the timing belt during the swap? If so, are you sure its not off a tooth?

Re: (EJ4door)
my buddy said the same thing but the sensors won't even reach to switch, think my buddy looked the harness around the wrong way haha. also if they were switched, wouldn't it throw the codes for the map and tps sensor? also. wel i knwo that my map sensor plug runs right off my air intake temp. sensor, so thats right?

Is this on a obd2 car? Could be your plug wires too, my eg had the same bogging problems and it turned out to the plug wires.

very possible, and it won't take long to check.

timing belt, but if you advance or retard your distributor and the motor runs better or worse, thats a pretty good sign that the belt is off a tooth. All you need to do to check the belt is to take off the plastic timing belt covers, and line up the dot on the crank with the mark on the block (should be straight up), then take the valve cover off so you can make sure the arrow on the cam gear is pointing straight up.
Try swapping your map and tps first though, it won't hurt anything and it takes less time.

that's what I figured, but as a rule of thumb, always check the easy stuff first. timing isn't the only possibility, but IMO (from experience) its the most likely.

I don't know, but I doubt its related. I drove with an IAT cel for about 4 months before, and I didn't notice any changes in how the car drove. Right now my IAT is broken again, but my chipped ecu isn't looking for it anymore, so no cel. was that y8 ever turbo (from whoever you bought it from)? turbos have a tendency to burn up iat's.

does it blink when you drive? thats an indication of a misfire. try checking the timing with a timing light.

Re: Boggy car, not drivable. Throws CEL bu it just blinks? (kyden)
it doens't blink when driving, only when I try and check the codes. it just blinks about every 10 seconds. but when i reset the ecu, it doens't have one until like 3 minutes later. SO im thinking the code thats in the euc isn't really the air intake temp or it would go off right away yea?

timing looks good. the white line is tdc. the red line is used with a timing light to set your ignition timing.
