bogging down low rpms
Hey HT so I just got the head gasket on my 95 civic d16z6 replaced. The shop that did it had a ported head that the threw on my motor at no charge. I was excited when they told me this. However when I picked it up it seems like it has lack of power/bogging down at lower rpms. It feels like it had more power with my previous head. Any ideas what may be causing the bogging issue?

They just said it was "ported", they didn't tell you HOW it was ported? You never wondered why they'd give you a "free" upgrade? Different port setups flow differently, and will give different powerbands. If it's a wide open flow, it'll increase top end power at a loss of low end, and won't truly benefit without a cam and a tune. Sounds like you might have gotten screwed over by someone's high school machine shop project.

Re: bogging down low rpms
The shop is one that a few friends of mine use. The owner said they just had the head sitting g around since the mainly do dohc swaps into civics and it came off a old motor. He said they would do it just to save down time on my car so they would only have the car a day instead of 3 days. Didn't tell me how it was ported or anything like that.
