Default blown strut...

so i had a shop i used to work for install my koni struts and GC springs about a week ago. i went out with the gang last night and started overheating. popped the hood, felt the radiator...felt fine. just before i was going to close the hood i noticed the passenger strut sticking out a few inches more than it should be. anyone know what might have caused this? thanks!

Well what actually causes this (and yes it is improper installation, is not putting all of the pieces back on. it looks to me like the bump stop may not be in, as well as the metal ring around the top. can you snap a picture of the bottom side of it? Also make sure you have these pieces (6,8,13,11) Loks to me like you are definitely missing (8).

i cant really get to the bottom of it. i dont have a jack at my house, we lifted it up last night at my friends the booty i guess is what its called, is broken. he pointed it out to me. the black piece he said is the boot or booty. i dont remeber (was to pissed to really listen) but ill try to get a pic to show you what im talking about. so its not a "defective" strut? thats what my pops and my friends were saying. ill take it down to the shop tomorrow see what they have to say. i appreciate the help!

Nah it shouldn't be a defective strut, sounds like they just didn't put all the pieces back on, the little booty is a dust cover, I don't run it on my struts, but then again I don't have real nice ones either haha.

Haha you have no idea man. Well you do live in Cali, I don't know if I would ever get sleep in Cali with my car.

I know that feeling though, it sucks so bad when things go wrong, but both of my rear struts (when I first did my suspension) did the same thing, grabbed a jack and a buddy and fixed it in about 30 minutes.

by the way I'm surprised in that picture that the way the strut is that it didn't go through the hood or dent it at least.

well all i did was un bolt the top bolt pushed the strut down so I could take the top pieces off (the rubber thing and w/e else was in the way) i looked at that link I posted a few posts up, and put everything back in that order on the strut.

thanks a bunch for the help! all it was was a missing washer. the guy who did it had to cut part of the black part under the fender so it wouldnt rub. so the booty wasnt broken. just had a missing washer. all fixed! ready to launch again!
