Default blown head gasket.

Just figured out my head gasket is blown. Should I even bother replacing it? I have a d16z6 with 153k on it. Should I just drop in a newer single cam? I want gsr swap but im low on cash. Advice?

I'd replace the head gasket. It's cheap, not that hard, and then you can save more cash for that gsr swap.

Yeah it overheats but only when i'm at idle. At first I was sure the gasket was blown but it wasnt throwing smoke at all but coolant was disappearing so I knew something was up. my oil looked fine too so I replaced a few things thinking and hoping it wasn't the head gasket but after nothing worked I was positive. fml.

overheats at idle? maybe your radiator fan is not kicking on or the switch is bad?

If it only overheats at idle, that doesn't sound like the HG... As far as the disappearing coolant goes, look for leaks before tearing the head off. Like apexi said, check the fan.

i just had to check all mine since i was losing coolant but no smoke no power loss no foam.

i had just gotten a new rad/fan. and turns out id just spit out a tiny bit out of the top hose. found that i just didn't tighten down the band camp as tight as it should be. no loss since.

if the cooland is goin somewhere and it isnt on the ground then just do an oil change i mean u need to drain the oil and clean the pan anyway if the head is blown but if u drain the oil and like 2qts of water/antifreeze come out then kno where the coolant went and u kno the headgasket is bad

I replaced the switch and the radiator and the rad cap and thermostat and did a coolant flush. even ran a switch through the car so i could flip it on and off when i wanted. the car does throw a little smoke but it isnt white. so im pretty sure the hg is muffed up

It would not hurt to replace some other gaskets while you're at it...
