Default Blew up a 2001 Civic EX... What would you do?

Well I have a Civic for a beater, never bought it to put money into, just something to drive. Well.... I blew the **** out of it. Hit 2nd instead of 4th while racing. SMACK! Each piston has two chunks ripped out of it from the intake valves.

So what should I do? Rebuild? New motor? Motor Swap (Type S, b16 etc)

I want cost efficent. Any ideas?

lol never bought it to mod it but still race it

Um It depends, now do you want to buy another motor and not mod it like you said before and still secretly race it?

Or now would you like to mod a motor and your civic?

If so you have a million (15ish) choices to choose from... This is now a whole different topic.. and it has a million (a lot) of factors to go from...

Not really, unless he wants to go through the trouble of going from K -&gt; D/B/H . Stay with K, he still has everything else there, just needs a block.

01 EXs have a D17. He can go either way...I would go for a K, though.

Doh! Forgot about that. I'm not good with 7th gen. He only messed the motor up, why not get another D instead of swapping everything out, he's looking for cost effective. Isn't the D17 much different than the others though?

best bet is to stick with the D17 or go with a K. I wouldn't go for a different D or a B. As for cost effective, I'd have to say, stick with the D.

No one as of yet has swapped a B series (or H for that matter) into a 7th gen. The only swaps have been with the K family. You can do what I did, and swap a K series in. It made my 7th gen 100000000000x's better, and more fun to drive. Or, you can find D series motors for dirt cheap, and if later on you want more power, you have just turbo that motor. Its actually doing fairly well with the Staffard Fabrications Turbo kit.
Good luck.

i agree with no bottle. A b series will be a lengthy process and is illegal.
There are a few routes you can go. You can get a used D17 for cheap, build the crap out of it, and boost it.

You can get a k20 (RSX-S preferrably) and live with that or you can do with that engine. You can try to fit a k24 in there too. You will have to find a way to compensate for the extra weight in the front by doing some suspension tweaking and you will probably hvae to move your battery to the back.

Im selling my K20A2 with HASport Mounts, and HASport axles. Or you can buy the seperate pieces. Im selling the motor with all of its stuff for $3000+shipping...the mounts (that I used for 4 weeks) for $550+shipping ($50 below retail), and the axles for $350+shipping ($50 below retail), and an AEM CAI for $150+shipping (retail $215). Everything actually used for seriously 4 weeks. I will do a group deal...you buy everything, and the cost is $3900+shipping. No I dont know how much shipping will be, but I can tell you that it cost me $350 to ship the motor from Florida, to California. Thats a rad deal, I bought the motor when I got it for $3800+shipping...then I bought the $600 mounts, the $400 axles, the $215 AEM CAI, etc. on top of that.

How about you go buy a car with a automatic trans since you don't seem too good at shifting?

How would it be "madd work"? Everything is plug and play now with that swap, except for welding the exhaust up. Take motor out, put new one in. Use HASport wire harness conversion, plug into ECU, turn on car and go. Yes, obviously there is more to it than that, Ive done the swap. But really, it isnt that hard. And if he buys the motor, mounts, axles, intake from me, hes mostly there.

so many idiots...

If you are looking to do the easiest thing possible, then go get another D17 at a junk yard. On contrary to what some other idiots posted, you cannot get any otehr D series (D15, D16) into your car without major work. You need another D17 out of a 2001+ Civic. Any other series (with one exception explained below) will be a lot of custom work and will not be cost-effective at all. So if you are not looking to mod your car and want to keep its daily driver status, throw in another D17 and don't drive like an ******* anymore

The other option you can do fairly easily is a K-series swap. The K series motor has the same 'Backwards' design as the D17 you currently have. With a swap kit available from Hasport (http://www.hasport.com), you will be able to bolt any K series motor right in. That would make for some decent gains over your stock motor and as some homework will tell you they are very responsive to mods. You can get a Type-S motor to push 200whp with just I/H/E and Hondata reflash ( !!!) Personally this would be the route I would go if I were in your shoes.

Good luck

All good info except for what I have in bold:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by lax1185 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">The other option you can do fairly easily is a K-series swap. The D17 spins just the same as any B-series, or any other D series or whatever out there. I know this for a fact. The header is on the dront of the D17, with the intake manifold on the back as well.

Well see... I bought this car to beat the **** out of, IE ebrake slides, racing etc. It lasted fine until my dumbass mis shifted. I dont want to spend alot of money, although I do have like $10,000 to spend on whatever right now, that money is designated in my "Supra fund"

Anyone know any cheap D17's?

How about you quit running your mouth over the internet, tool. And it's funny you mention that, I probably am buying an auto SUPRA.
