Black specs on my dipstick?
Hello everyone. So here's the thing. Not too worried but just seeing what kind of input I get. Car is a 96 civic with a b16a swap. The car sits for winter and I start it every few weeks. I ran it for about 20 minutes today then checked the oil. Oil is perfect clear in color changed it before it was put away. Honda oil and filter. But I see like 3 small black specs so I wipe it off and check it 3 more times and nothing. Run it again and check again and still nothing. Car runs amazing. Never an issue. Very low milage no modifications at all. So my question is what do you think the little black specs were ? Should I be concerned. Car runs perfect no abnormal noise or such.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Black specs on my dipstick?
I experienced this with my car recently. It was sludge. Can't confirm/deny that's your problem but it some what makes sense since you admit you park it for the winter time. To be honest my car ran perfectly fine but I kept seeing the specs on the dipstick. When I seen the specs through the oil cap on the internals I decided to tear it down. All the sludge was in the pan.

Another vehicle of mine had same thing.
I changed the oil; 5000 miles later? A rod is knocking.
Ran perfectly before that ..
*edit: Yours does not sound that severe.
Just keep an eye on color. Should blacken quickly in am engine like that. When it does.. 5000 is the new 3000 mile short OCI.

Yeah the thing is it doesn't get driven much. I check the oil it's always clear. Hardly gets dirty. It's been really good for me. Should I drive it more to avoid this?
