Default Black Box Clicking; What is it and Why?

98civic hx
94 gsr motor p72 ecu

I just put a wideband o2 in the car and have been screwing with some of the wiring to get it all wired up. Anyways I have a p72 in place of my original ecu.

Well I decided to turn the ecu horizontal and drill a new hole to bolt it in that way.

Their was a wire harness that goes to a little black box to the right of the glovebox(if sitting in the passenger seat) and below the heater vent on the dash. I cut one of the clips holding this harness to the car so I could bolt my ecu against the car a little closer and now since I have moved the wire harness for the black box it makes this horrible clicking noise.

I can just unplug the harness from the box and of course the noise goes away.

What is this black box and can I just unplug it?

Cliff notes: Black box inside dash on passenger side clicking. How do I fix this?

Thanks guys,
98civic94gsr

I figured it was a relay. And you didn't answer my question.

Tell me something I don't know, like what the relay does.

I've just recently put a jrsc on the motor and have yet to start it.

So does anybody know what it is or not?

Thanks for telling me what I already know and if anybody actually knows what it does and if I can just unplug it let me know

Thanks,

you just asked what the box is, dont get a ******* attitude when someone gives you a basic answer to a basic question

just ******* unplug it already

worst case is engine dosent run. you arent gonna hurt anything by unplugging it while the car isnt even running. why the hell are you removing it anyway? just ziptie it up to something. odds are it does something important.

Because it is making a loud *** clicking noise thats why.

I asked what the damn box does and the response I get is: Its a relay.

Well how does that help? It doesn't.

You tell me to just ******* unplug it already. Sounds like you don't know what it is either. So why did you post?

All I want to know is what function it serves. If it doesn't serve an important function in conjunction with my motor/car setup I'll just unplug it, but if it has to do with timing or some **** like that I'll have to figure out how to get it to stop clicking.

Thanks again and I know thier is a wiring guru out thier that knows what it is,
Hell and the sooner you answer the sooner I'll quit asking "stoopid" questions.

Thanks

thats because ITS A RELAY. they all make clicking noises when they work.

you asked what the box IS and what it DOES. that would assume you dont know what the "black box" is. you could have just as easily said "what does this relay do".

your damn right i dont know what it does and i dont have a service manual near me so i cant tell you that. but dont get an attitude when someone tries to help you when you ask an oversimplified question and get an oversimplified answer.

there is no relay that controls timing, just unplug the ******* thing and see if the car runs. trust me, if it controls something important the car wont start. odds are its for the blower motor or vent controls.

your question isnt stupid, the wording you used is and your attitude twords someone who answered your poorly worded question, was.

I'll give you a little bit of advice since there are just a bunch of flamers not willing to help you out. Go pick up a helms manual and check out the wiring diagram to the components under the dash. I would help you more but i'm not sure which relay it runs to. Good luck.

What do you mean it's clicking loud? Is this all the time or just whenever it turns on and off? It may just be normal.

Is it clicking all the time? If you unplug it, what doesn't work? Did you check to see that all the wires are still snug? When you moved it was the part/clip that was holding it in place a ground (a relay that has a metal tab on it that is bolted to metal is the ground for the relay)? If you put it back to where it was, does it stop clicking?

Post a pic, find a diagram to show us what the hell exactly you're talking about... If you want real help we need real details....

http://estore.honda.com/

Find what you're talking about in there.... probably under ELECTRICAL / EXHAUST / HEATER / FUEL / CONTROL UNIT (CABIN)...

I beleive it was a plastic tab holding it to the metal part of the car but I will check and see. I'll borrow my buddies digi camera and snap a pic.

Thanks guys I'll post again soon with better info.

Update:

Got car started. Unhooked positive battery cable and then rehooked it and relay wasn't clicking anymore. Also after rehooking the battery I could hear my new fuel pumping coming on. So the relay box has to do with the fuel pump. I think after changing the fuel pump it must screw with the relay and the electrical system needs to be reset. All is well now.

Now I'll I gotta do is fix the high idle and a coolant leak.

Thanks guys,
