Biggest tire size on an EK?
at the moment i'm running 205/50/15s with a 40mm offset, any idea what's the biggest tire i can get on those rims without rubbing on an EK? Or what would be a better setup for bigger tires on an EK? i just want to run the largest i can without having to do a wide body kit or anything major.

Re: (DutchEG6)
I run the 225/50/15 BFG Street drags on my Rotas. Its a 93 eg. But I guess it depends if traction is a problem withyour setup. If not 205/50/15 are the way to go BFG has a set of g-forces out that are going for 75 a piece on tiredirect. After attending Michelin school i tend to stick with BFG or Michelin, they don't cut any corners with there tires. Michelin also owns and producess BFG.

I run 215/45/16 on my Ek...
but it rubs the inside of teh wheel well at full lock just a little bit, and I had to roll my fenders a little bit. But the traction is amazing...
With Azenis my car handles and sticks just as well as my friends sedan on R comps at the track.

205/50/15 is the most you should go. Why are you looking to go wide, are you competing in a steamroller contest or something? I am using 195/55/15 on my Rota C-8's, but then again, I dont want any kind of rub or tire contact to the body. It has about a finger width of clearance on the outer rear fender wells.

and you will fly off the road trying to keep up with me and my 215/45/16's in a turn. Why would you ask why someone wants to run a big tire? traction obviously...

True. Traction is important. But doesn't suspension work also goes into consideration? If the spring rate is higher, will 195 tire be good enough?

You get better steering response with the 195's. I have 205's with 35mm offset and they sure look great but they follow every little groove in the road and they rub in quick corners with factory springs. I'll most likely go back to 195's when these wear out.

wrong...
The bigger your tires the more meat there is between the rim and the road. Don't get me wrong there is a point at which most people will choose the fashion over the function, I am just not one of them. I have to agree with Rodney on this one, pick whatever kind of wheel/tire combo you want and make it fit...
and I also disagree with the guy that said that you get better responce with the 195's, I think I get better responce with my 215's but like he said they do follow every little groove in the road. A good alighnment is also very important...

you sure about that bro? how about we meet at giants stadium or e-town for a little handling challenge? i'll have you know my current setup (225/50-15 on a 15x9) just won "best of show" at the local steamroller contest........

Re: (sinister6)
All I know is this, my 205/50/15's do fine, but 205/55/15's rubbed on the inside like mad! If you run stiffer suspension, you could proably do 55's, but 215/50/15 would cause major trouble.

Re: (Nyceguy17)
I had 215/35/19 on my 2000 Si for a while. They rubbed if you took a 180 really quick. Other than that they were fine. It also helps to get a tight suspension.

Re: Biggest tire size on an EK? (bradykiller)
well can trying running 215/50 wide tires on the 40mm offset, but you'll need one hell of a stiff suspension to keep the fenders away from the tires,
I currently run 205/50 with +31mm offset rims..on buddy club RS suspension, rolled the fenders, never had any rubbing issues period

Re: Biggest tire size on an EK? (bradykiller)
Re-read original post! It clearly states "without rubbing or major work".
Rota wheels are a 38 mm offset, so anything wider than a 195 will rub on the rear fender well.
SI/Swirlies or other wheels with a 40 to 45 mm offset are better candidates for a 205/50 tire.
Those are FACTS, guys.....
Like I said in my post above, have no rub whatsoever.
Nuff said on this.
Peace!!!

Re: Biggest tire size on an EK? (97civicdx)
It matters on suspension setup and how low you drop the car, and rolling fenders takes what 10mins with a hair dryer and a rubber mallet, just telling you what works for me. and no a 38+mm offset with 205 azenis will not rub unless you slam the car and have super soft springs setup. but this guys wants to put like 225/45/15 tires on a 15x6.5/7 wheel so let him do what he wants, the feedback from the tires will never feel that great unless he gets wider rims as well

Re: Biggest tire size on an EK? (IM ALL BOB)
Rotas are 40mm offset, that's what i have on now with 205/50 series tires.. and i have no rubbing issues what-so-ever. I have Omni-power full coilovers and i have about a 1 finger gap from fender to tire.
I was thinking i'd raise the car a little, and get some like 5mm spacers for the fronts and try 225/50/15s. I will probably have to roll the fenders a bit, but i don't mind doing that.. i just don't wanna have to cut anything or buy a wide body kit.
