Hi guys, I've temporarily gutted my car to take care of some things. I bought it a few months ago and it needed a real thorough cleaning. I'm cleaning each interior piece individually, dying the carpet black, and so on. I'm also putting in new speakers while I have everything apart, but anyways.

After I removed my rear seats I decided to take out that "sound deadening". It seemed a bit moist and didn't look very useful anyways so I pulled it out (I was originally not going to bother).

Anyways now that it's out, what's the general consensus on coating it ? I live in Canada so I want something to protect from rust. Should I just buy stock silver paint (in a spray can) and primer it and then paint it like that? Or should I use some type of anti-rust coating, black or whatever, to protect it even more?

i know people use that truck bed lining or coating i hear it helps keep the noise down and what not. its like a spray in bed liner or what not. i might be wrong

yea that truck bed liner stuff would probably work, its supposed to be pretty durable.

go to canadiantire and get rubber undercoater 1 can is like 7 dollars buy like 2 or as many as u like

Under coating for the trucks works good an you can still paint over it that what i use at my body shop....

durable yes....heavy as ****? yes! defeats the purpose of gutting the car!

If you read his post he said he removed it because it was moist and holding water. there was never anything said about it being heavy.

I used undercoating on my 7th Gen Civic. Just make sure your floorpan is extremely clean and free of greasy, oily residue, or that stuff wont stick for ****


Oh and it takes some time to dry. Try not having to use the car for a day or so...

autozone or advance auto sells DIY truck liner kits, or you can go to rhino liner or line-x and have them do it with a lifetime warranty.
