Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
I just recently met an original owner of a 2000 civic Si through mutual friends and actually came across this car sitting in his garage under hords of laundry and trash.
The owner tells me the cars engine has stopped running and he did not know of its current condition or reason of failure. He's only sure of one thing that it all happened during him being out of town and his wife had access to the car while he was gone, in turn one way or another she killed his baby.
I told him that I used to toy with hondas back in the day and i would take a look at it, well for some reason the first thing I removed was the exhaust manifold heat sheild and saw a peice of the block casting missing due to connecting rod failure. I then quickly told him the motor was toast, possibly the cylinder head also.
To make a long story short I never made a offer at the vehicle cause of his love for it as he has spent 5 years paying it off.
Just last week I decided to stop by and say hi to my new buddy and desperation was the instant topic, he needed $
So I offered 850$ and the clean title was signed over to my name, and the car was brought to my home via car dolly and my work truck.
With the purchase I recieved
1 clean title honda civic Si 143,000 miles, all original and unmolested minus a new set of kyb grey shocks and ground control coilovers,
original radio and radio code card,
both master keys and single valet key, also the security clickers,
original owners manuals and srs manuals,
sunroof key,
all spare and jack assembely present.
again its litaraly like it rolled of the lot excluding the aftermarket shock and spring package which i dont mind one bit.
Heres the pics so far then Ill explain my plans

so far pros are:
all original and everything is there,
clean title,
850$
cons are:
minor scuffs and dings and dents throughout,
rear passenger side quarter glass broken,
passenger side door handle broken,
broken motor obviously,
front and back bumper are pretty bad and need replacement,
needs new tires,
sure more but this will be a thorough restoration to complete factory spec minus the motor which i will discuss in my next post.
This Thread will be updated pretty often so if this interests you stay tuned, please also give me your input and help me decide the best routes for this build/restoration.
I dont really believe there is that many of these things in existence that arent totaled, stolen, or riced to the sky.

It was a toggle switch for these blue lights housed inside the headlights, Im hoping there was a foglight option for these cars from the factory and use those to replace that switch panel.

Well got the motor removed and still have to drop the oil pan to see the real carnage, but one thing is for sure the block is toast.
The hole in the oil pan and the hole in the front of the block say it all, I cant wait to split this badboy open. Even the bottom of the oil pan is all beat up from the inside out!
The head I havnt inspected thoroughly, so Im still in hopes that it can be salvaged, freshened up, and used for the build.

Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
Heres a few more pics of the engine bay,
The engine itself literally bleeding the last of its life out of the hole in the pan from what i would assume a connecting rod bolt
and also the reason I took on this project.
I have a 96jdm gsr short block 100% complete and in great shape,
I also have two gsr cylinder heads complete.
I am still hoping for the b16a head to check out good and be servicable.
But I have enough parts laying around to figure something out.
My plans were
B18C block light hone, Rs machine 81mm ITR pistons
Stock rods
Arp rod bolts, resizing the big rod ends
New oil pump
Water pump
All rebuild seals and gaskets
Cylinder head hopefully the B16A I would just like to have the surface checked for flat and resurface if necesary,
new valve job,
new guides, and seals,
maybe a minor port, hopefully something of that to match the factory R if possible,
dual valve springs and retainers,
ITR cams

Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
Im gonna have to find more ways to make it flow yet keeping it sleeper.
My main goal is to have almost 100% stock apperence SI.
under the hood im willing to sacrifice the change of having an ITR intake manifold.

Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
Im going to try to find time to research the flow of the stock exhaust to see if it can meet the demands of the 1.8
I'm sure I'll introduce test pipes, and resonators and such to achieve good flow and reduced sound. I do know for my build I will be using a jdm 96 spec ITR exhaust manifold, so that should not look any less then stocklike as it utilizes a heat shield ,
I'm sure in the longrun I will have to have two seperate tunes
1 stock exhaust
2 test pipe

Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
Thanks, I am already in love with it, i had a honda hatchback when i was in my teens years ago and always wanted a si. But i finally got tired of paying crazy gas prices in a 97 jeep cherokee sport lifted (13mpg) and sold it and started looking for a better commuter and had my heart set on a si, but almost gave up because they are so hard to find not riced out and with a clear title. But i went picked this one up for 5 grand, its not perfect but i have already put over 400+ miles on it and seems to be really reliable and VERY fun to drive.

Wow Great story and What a steal deal. It was faith that brought you and the car together. Clean shells like that usually sell for 1500 to 2000 so you got a really really good deal. Can't wait too see what you do to it.
Happy tuning!
