Ball Joint broke while driving...need help.
Allright, as you can see, my ball joint went out on me and popped out. Then as you can see, the axle ripped in half too.
My only question is, how do I get the balljoint and that bolt out, so I can replace with my OEM honda one on the way.
Thanks for help

Pull the whole knuckle off the car and take it some place with a hydraulic press to have the old one pressed out and the new one put in.
What bolt?
What bolt?

How did the lca come off? was there no bolt and cotter pin holding it in?
You don't need to remove the knuckle completely to take out the ball joint, just everything but the upper control arm. Let it hang and get a sledge hammer and whack it up from the bottom, you will need to remove the axle and that ring that goes in the knuckle to remove the ball joint however. You can whack it in with the hammer as well, you dont' need a press. I used a 2.5lb sledge but a bigger one is a lot easier. Don't even waste your time with a regular hammer

I dont see anything that actually looks broke.
Looks like you didn't put the cotter pin in and the bolt came off and the balljoint came out.
Replace bolt and cotter pin and I think you will be ok.

It doesnt look broke, but it doesnt tourqe down. I tried tighting it, but the ball joint would just spin. I talked to my friend from Honda and he said its going out and that it wont tourqe down correctly. I tightened the bolt down most of the way and no I didnt use the codder pin (yes it stupid) because it wouldn't fit in the hole because the bolt would screw in all the way.
Well thanks for the help. I guess I will just "pound" it out. I have no money to spend and im having a hard enough time finding a replacment axle that I can afford.

If u can't torque down the nut cause the bolt keeps spinning then do this:
put a jack under the lower control arm and jack it up as much as u can
once u see the car lift a little then u dont need to jack it up anymore, torque down the bolt!! its just cause the lower control arms is not locked in all the way so the bolt keeps spinning. Oh ya and this time put the cotter pin in.

Re: Ball Joint broke while driving...need help. (ransack)
When I went to get my alignment after putting in my shocks/springs/swaybars, I had the front passenger lower ball joint spin freely while trying to torque it down. I had my car towed (yay to AAA free towing) to get the alignment and they just said pressure needed to be applied and they used an impact gun which I didn't have.

not working
I tried the jack trick and it still spins freely.
I'm getting a new ball joint today.
So just WHACK it with a hammer to pop it out?
Will the new one just kinda slide in?

Yeah, and make sure you use a sledge hammer to whack it back in.
Also, when the balljoint spins, I just use a pair of needlenose vice-grips to hold the shaft till the friction holds.

In my garage! J/P. You can get them just about anywhere, try a lowe's or even autozone, they are very universal for many projects, they come in many sizes and lengths.

Your ball joint looks fine. The bolt should rotate. If you have your mind set on replacing
it you will need to remove the steering knuckle, and take it to someone who they are doing.
You can get a new life time axle at your local auto parts store for under $100.

he probably didn't have a cotter pin... that's what happens when you don't have them...
everything looks fine to me... I mean nothing is "broken".

As someone stated above, there is a snap-ring around the ball joint. It might be covered with grime, but it's there. You'll have to remove that before any whacking-off takes place.

hmmm ok, but I took it to a machine shop this morning and it will be ready in a few hours. Old one out and new one in.
And as far is it looking broken, you cant see it well, but the old one is bent. WHen the ball joint popped out, the threads hit the ground it and bent the thread part. So I cant even get the bolt around it. so new one is bought and being put on.

That axel just looks like the boot tore. You can just get a new boot, some axel grease and put that one back together, you just have to work the three bearings the right way, its actually messier then it is hard.

You, I looked at it and it looks like that. Nothing is snapped, it just came out. I dont know how axles work, so maybe it just fine. I'm gonna take it to a place and with core exchange its 35 bucks. so yeah for me
Also, I GOT the BALL joint it. I took it to GoodYear, the switched the ball joints for 20 bucks, and I put it all back together in 30 minutes. all I need is money to get axle
