B18c5 vs H22

Re: B18c5 vs H22 (jolt-tsp)
I think this thread is pretty interesting. Personally, I would go for the B18C5. This may not be a good point, but the C5 IS Honda's race engine besdie the NSX and S2k engines. In any auto-x, road race, or anything besdies a straight line I'd recommend the B18C5. High revving, plenty of power, and you really don't need too many mods. Especially since it's going into a Hatch, I'm sure this guy is concerned with weight, as any racer should.
You know what, just disregard everything I just said, and put a vote up for a C5.

Re: B18c5 vs H22 (Fuzion)
Both good motors. I went with the R because it was a lot easier for me at the time, since I had to do it all myself. The year before that though me and my friends put an H22 in a EG and it was pretty tite...But then again, when I test drove it, it had a blown-out 3rd gear so that was pretty gei. Better throttle response than the ITR, I think. And it took a lot of work to fit it and actually get all that power from the wheels to the ground. They're both worth the effort though.
I'm just generally more comfortable working with Bs, so I got a b-series. My car is not a daily driver, BTW, but I drive it all the time. And I only run it at the track occasionally. If you have the patience for an H22, get it. I don't think you'll be dissatisfied with either H22 or B18C5. If you really can't decide...
Just flip a damn coin.

RUMOR DISPROVEN PROOF!
H22 is actually ligher than B Series!!

just kidding...but it is only ~35 lbs more. So why the weight argument?

Re: (Kikomon)
for track racing id take a c5 hands down over a h22. i have a c1 in my track hatch and love it. type r tranny would make it that much better.
for a street car id love to have an h22 though. torque owns the streets.

Do you guys with B & H swaps keep A/C?
When I first got in to Hondas, I had a 89 CRX SI. The first thing I pulled off was the A/C belt. At that time I didn't know how to remove the whole system. And I took the belt just from hearing it could free up some ponies. Rumor or truth at the time, I didn't car, it was just a belt.
When I got my 93 CX, I made sure A/C didn't come with it. And I yanked out the PS.
You get a better feel to the road with out PS and it doesn't get that hot in the PNW, so A/C isn't a main feature to me.

The only disadvantage IMO is the H22 gearing. One of the things I will be getting the beginning of 2004 is the Euro R tranny. This tranny is extremely comparible to the C5 gearing, and has factory LSD.
I will tell you -- a Euro R tranny mated with an H22A, will stomp all over the B18C5.

Re: (Jawad)
They are both great motors to put in a hatch. A lighter flywheel, lightweight header, and carbon fiber hood will defenitely make up for the non-noticable 35 lbs that everyone complains about(and probably never been in an H22 Civic either).
I would go with the H22 because it's half the price of a Type R swap.

if you are going to go with either of these motors you should build it from the bottom up in which case you are eventually going to blow a motor and need to replace it... that being said you should consider that a b series will be easier to replace than a h series that requires cutting and re-locating shift linkage....once you go h series you can't go back

true... however lets not forget that when its all said and done an H22 swap with cost about or a little less than thr C5 swap. My swap ran me 4100, and the C5 are around than much now.
I like the 22 though very very torquey.

What? Shut up. You didn't even bother reading those other posts did you?
You don't know anything do you?
The B18C5 is a good all around engine, with room to improve.
The H22 is a good all around engine, with just a MINOR weight disadvantage. In fact the only real flaw with the H22 is the improvement area, there's not as much as an aftermarket as their would be for a b series engine. And, if you wanted to go turbo, you're pretty limited as to how far you can go without having to resleeve the engine for forged pistons. That's not required with the B series. Because of the cylinder wall lining. BUT, if you do drop the money you will blow a b series turbo right out.
Do some research before you knock the h22, it's ignorant idiots like you that ruin this board. The H22 is JUST as capable as the B series, but at the cost of more money. And with the VAST resources available here, just as easy a swap.
And learn to spell!</TD></TR></TABLE>hahaha calm down guy i was just playin i like the h series i just like theb series better.. and yeah i do know my ****, not everything but i know my fair share sorry im not MISTA BONE i dont know everything.. i was just messing around this thread is gay.. im sick of reading it.. and holy **** you need to relax.

Re: (HATCHingMN)
i know that no one is going to read this cuz they obviously dont read the whole thing, i understand about the minor weight difference but does the h22 sit higher/lower, toward the front or the back of the compartment? cuz if it does wouldnt that change the feeling of handling? i know its OT
