B18b(turbo) vs. B18c(NA)
Its getting close to swap time and I was set on the b18b but lately hmotorsonline has a special running for the b18c at 3199.99. It got me thinking again. The b18b would run only about 1700 to put it in but then in a year or so I wanted to turbo it probably with a greddy kit or home made after I learned a lot more. The b18c would stay na and just get the usual i/h/ and cams. I already have a apexi ws exhaust cat back. I saw that great deal password:JDM had on the type R at only 3999.99 but they're sold out now. The b16a was an option but after searching and reading a lot about why would I want to have the same size engine in my car after the swap (1.6). So I'm pretty geared to the 1.8 liters and the b20 is not even an issue because it is not a complete swap. Oh by the way I have a 96 civic cx with 16" motegi rims.

Re: B18b(turbo) vs. B18c(NA) (h82lose)
Search is your friend. Either block (GSR or LS) handle boost nicely, although the LS is more of a favorite due to it's low compression and long gears. I've seen plenty of LS turbo's with mild set up run 12's on the 1/4.

I would go with the LS and turbo it. That is what I will be running in my street car. I think its the best setup for someone on a budget. Figure a b18c1 with h/i/e will put down around 155whp and a turbo LS will be anywhere from 230-270whp depending on boost and tuning.

Now keeping the b18b at low boost say at 8-9 would still be reliable though right considering I keep up on the oil changes and keep it running right

I hate this B18C stuff, are you guys referring to the R? If so, thats one hell of a good price, seeing as how its one of the most overpriced motors that I've ever seen. I'd go with the B18B, I can't justify spending the 3K plus for a used Vtec motor.

LS/turbo is INSANELY fast. The B18c1 will be much more reliable but a lot less fun.
Think about reliability when you make your decision, base it on daily driver or weekend warrior.

So with the b18b the greddy kit wouldn't be bad? Also I read somewhere that you could the single cam turbo kit on as well any truth to this?

Re: B18b(turbo) vs. B18c(NA) (CRX Si)
I was just going through all of the archives and it seems that everybody always say the b16a is a good engine you just have to rev it past 6000. The b20b great engine but weak sleeves. The b18c the best of the best just needs a better rod-stroke ratio. The b18b great engine for turbo or Na ( LsVtec ). Since the b18b is the cheapest and easiest engine to find I'm going with it. THe only thing I might want to change on it is the tranny maybe to a gsr. Now I know everybody hates this question but I have to ask. What would a 96 cx hatch with a b18b with a exhaust and intake run? Would I be able to stay with elcipses and v6 stangs. From everything I've read I should be able too

Re: B18b(turbo) vs. B18c(NA) (alphaquake)
The funny thing is everytime I look at a different engine then the b18c I get obstacles. The ls is geared too low, it has no horsepower, the b16a it has no torque, the tranny is geared too high. Then you come to the b18c and its great power band, great tranny, too expensive. You know though everything I read and hear its just the b18c is perfect, it belongs in a hatch. I think I know the right thing to do. Just sometimes the right thing is more expensive then the wrong thing. Besides getting the b18c with i/h/e and some cams should get me into the high 13's if i pratice enough and fully understand my car.
