Default b16a2 idle problem what is this part called

My civic has been idling erraticly. The thing in the picture has a broken hose connector, the part that leads to the canister in the picture. Is this the cause of my idle problems?

What is the name and fuction of the part circled in the upper left, and where does the vacuum line lead to. I see that it says canister, but what is that, and where is it. Pictures help very much. Thanks.

I don't think this is the cause of your idle problem, mine's not connected, and it still works fine.

That part may also be referred to as an evaporative purge solenoid
