B16A turbo or B18B turbo?
Ok I was thinking about this today:
Say you have either a B16A or B18B with the same Turbo kit, same boost, in a Civic: which setup would win in the 1/4 mile? Which setup would you prefer and why? How would each setup drive?
My initial thought was that the B18B would win because of the torque and displacement advantage, but on the other hand, the B16 has the better top end with the 8000 rpm redline. I couldn't come to a conclusion on my own so I decided to ask you guys! Any help is appreciated.

as for both motors bone stock the b18 wins but not by much that and there are too many other variables that play into what you run eg. driver exhaust tires weight etc.
but here are some #s from my trip to the track
b18b 93 cx hatch 15.2 @ 90
b16a 92 dx hatch 15.5 @ 88

jesus, B16A will have more power after tuning and due to better gearing WILL have better ET. BTW search is the key.
Why not post dynos? Anyone here thats putting in info even have a turbo'd anything? This is truely beating the hell out of a dead horse isn't it people?

Re: (SiR-DC2)
I searched but couldn't find any hard evidence. I am seriously stuck on which one would be faster. Wouldn't the extra 1000 rpm of boost help the B16? I am gettting mixed answers on which is faster! Does anyone have some hard evidence? ie. They have had both etc....

bull.. as you can add more dispalcement to a turbo car. more displacement=more power.. more displacement+turbo=alot more power.. with that said.. b18b

ok, let me drop in a f22b turbo into my civic...yeah displacement isn't always everything. It would be more cost effective to do a b18b swap than it would be to do a f22b swap.

if you're trying to be cost effective, swapping the motor kinda throws that out doesn't it?
nothing against motor swaps of course

I know you, didn't you just serve me some fries on your part time job after high school???
WTF is this supposed to mean, you quote and then not even post about the topic...oh well, topic starter-7lbs on each engine the B16A WILL have more power due to compression...at 10lb B16As have gotten almost 300hp, you won't find an LS doing that Go to yahoo-B(whatever) turbo dyno- check out your results.

Re: (SiR-DC2)
I would say its all about preference. Ive seen many Turboed Si coupes in the 12 second ETs at the track and have a few friends with turbochared Civic Si's. Its all about tunning. I wouldn't say the B18b is that much stronger than the B16a. Both motors have super strong bottom ends but obviously the B16a has a way better cylinder head and from what I have seen Turbos seem to love VTEC. Stock to stock for turbo I'd go B16 all day! Just some thing to think about ; all motor LSVTEC motors with stock bottom ends still can not handle the factory redline of a b16a 1.6L on a daily basis and still remain AS reliable as the B16a, just a thought but ultimately its up to you!
