Icon2 B16a engine or a full rebuild what do use think?

hi all so 3 days ago i f**ked my valves up due to the camshaft not spining with the sprocket. its a 94 ej1 d16a soch vtec jdm motor. as many of you would understand i dont want too loose the car after all the money and affort i put into it. so im considering ethier a engine rebuild with new valves(anything else?) want to keep the head if i can, can i? or drop in a pritty stock 93 b16a motor with 190,000km from my del sol. witch would work out cheaper and what do you guys think?

well you see when the camshaft stopped moving the pistons where moving so 1 or 2 came up and smacked into the valves causing them to bend

just the woodroof key or whatever it is called? you know that little notch that sticks out of the sprocket and slides into the gap on the camshaft. that completey stripped off so the spocket spun around the camshaft instead of with it so everything was moving in order apart from the camshaft and of corse the valves

lol. that sucks. if you have another car to get around with then you can go ahead with a rebuild. If you can't afford the down time then just throw the other one in.

im using the del sol at the moment to get around. i know a rebuild is pricey enuf but include the new set of valves and what ever else may be needed and you could be talking around the same price as the engine swap??

Dude pull the head off, take it to a machine shop have them redo the valve seats that are f#$%ed, buy however many valves you need, buy a headgasket and put it back together. Fix your cam issue of course. Bet it won't cost you over 200 bux. WAAAYYYY Cheaper than a swap.

If anything happened to your pistons though... which I highly doubt, that could be some money.

Plus it will be EASY.

the swap is free just put it in EVERYthing BOLTS up! much better than taking it apart paying for machining then waiting then you have to assemble it back. if you have experience in swaps it should take a min. one whole day or max a weekend.

I could agree with the swapping, but how many miles are on the d16? I'm not sure if you're familiar with all the possible problems the b16 may have with such high mileage. But if everything checks out, i'd say go for it. But if you're just guessing, you're walking in the dark because you never know what may go wrong. If that's the case, you'd be better off with the d16 seeing how you'd know everything would be working just right.

Thanks for the input guys! iv decided to go with the swap. iv had the del sol witch has the b16 in it for a few months now and the timing belt and water pump where changed just before i got it and best thing is that it ante modified apart from an induction kit and was owned by a lady for years so its in spot on nick apart from the valve cover needing a repaint! thanks again guys
