Um, the b16b is better of course..
The jdm b16a has 170hp, the b16b has 185 with higher compression, redline, and higher-flowing head. The price difference is a pretty penny though.

I pretty much agree with this. For the extra $2-$3k, you could get a better head for the b16, and if you go f/i, the higher cr isn't going to do a thing for you, since you will likely swap them out for lower cr forged internals if you go high boost. But, the ultimate decision is up to you.

Re: b16a or b18b? (B16aDasher)
The b16b is worth the price if you just want an engine and won't mod it further..
For a good f/i base I would have chosen something different, but the b16b is a good choice for a daily driver. It's good for cool points at shows or whatever too, but I really don't care about that stuff, just got it because it's a cool engine.
Now if you're asking about a B16A and B18B, the B16A has 20 more hp, higher redline, mad tyte vtec, but a tad less torque.. which won't really matter. The B18B can be turned into a turbocharged monster though, so swap that if you plan to spend your college funds on the car down the road.

B20, with b16 LSD tranny, 8lb flywheel, I/H/E, chip and stage 1 cams. Lots of torque and lots of fun. I had that about a yr ago in my HB... wish i hadn't sold it.
