Ok so I just picked up an ej1 with a b16a. I need to do an oil change but don't know what oil filter to get. If I went to pepboys what kind of filter should I ask for? Also what's the best oil to use and how man quarts?

If you use a fram its a 3593a and I use mobil 1 full synthetic, but capacity is 4.5 quarts.

Well you if go to any reputable dealer (autozone, checkers, pepboys) they shoud have catalog'd books of the type of oil filter & each brand in that section your kinda car uses, and you just gotta ask yourself what kinda car a b16a comes out of...
its best to use 5w-30 viscosity, and i personally use royal purple full synthetic blend(race track proven)

use the fram 6607 over the 3593 for better oil pressure and yeah, its 4.5 quarts of 5w-30

I'm 99% positive that D series, B series and K series all use the same oil filter...

I have a b16 del sol and I use Fram Toughguard. Basically just get the most expensive one there. Anything around $10 should suffice.

B16A oil sump capacity is 4.2 quarts with an oil and filter change according to the manuals. I've found it usually takes about 4-1/4 to 4-1/3.

All '86 and newer Honda automotive 4-cylinder engines (except F20C and F22C) spec the same oil filter.

Purolator Pure One filters have good recommendations. I generally stay away from Fram filters due to their low quality innards.

if he has a b16a (jdm) than the filter numbers you guys have suggested are all wrong! i am in the middle of my first b16a oil change and am having problems. the usdm filter is the same as any us civic but jdm is different. i have 4 civics and my stock of filters are not fitting. i cross referenced the filter that was on it but the stp part no. isnt fitting either! this sucks!

just got a stp s2903 to fit. cross reference if you dont like stp. i stopped using fram after i had a gasket bust open! this is only for the B16a, not b16a1, 2, etc!

Since the mid 80's pretty much every honda/acura used the same damn oil filter!

only exceptions i can think of are nsx, early TL, and the legend

Factory all the way!!!!!! I only run honda filters on royal purple. No fram junk.






The usdm honda oil filter will fit on the b16a no prob i have a jdm b16a i picked up in jan an i removed the jdm filter an screwed on the us filter no prob. Whats the prob with your filter???? To big? to small? not threading on?????

No they aren't. All B-series engines spec the same filter, Honda part number 15400-PLM-A0x.

Something is wrong with your particular engine then. The previous owner may have changed the filter holder; othewise, you must be doing something wrong or are trying to use an incorrect or faulty filter. It's hard to say what's wrong, because you haven't given any sort of elaboration on the problem other than "it doesn't fit." The STP S2903 you claim to have made fit uses the same M20x1.5 thread as a Honda PLM filter, so it's not a threading issue . . .

So you're saying that I don't know these parts like the back of my hand, despite working exclusively on Honda engines for over a decade including oil filter changes on a daily basis?

You can hate forums all you want, but it still doesn't change the facts.

So you run the 15400-PLM-A02? Just wondering, because it's manufactured by Honeywell/Fram with cheaper quality internal components than the Filtech-made 15400-PLM-A01 . . . not that it really matters that much.

wix is good(aka napa) get the gold line though, dont play around with silver. bosch has filters at autozone now, but i havent looked up any test results yet. fram are ok for a daily driver.......... my 93 si has seen nothing but fram filters(except the original) and castrol gtx 5w-30. swtched to high mileage at about 100k......runs like a champ, no engine issues at all. but its usually hard to beat the oem filter. for a daily driver with some abuse once in a while, i see absolutely no need to run synthetic. its a waste of money imo unless you beat on it pretty hard.

i have the same exact swap in my 96 civic my d16y7 took the same oil filter as my JDM b16a fram tough guard ph3593a

I believe Targa250R just said that the Honda Filter is made by fram.
I also run Fram filters and I like them. My favorite one though is the Napa Nascar Select, it seems to have the best particle filter rate for the $. Becuase it has like a 98.9 or 99.5% MP Efficiency and yet it only costs like $3.12.

what i mean by oem filters are hard to beat is that honda designed the engine and filter together(kinda) so the honda filter will do exactly what honda intended the filter to do.

We use pure power lifetime filters which are good or you could use a wix racing oil filter from o'reillys
