I suggest you search. Other than that, get what you can afford. A GSR is going to be about 1000 bucks more but is a better (stonger) engine stock and has more torque.

depends on what you plan on doing in the long run with the motor as well, torque for one or top end, gsr will be more expensive to install to start off with since youll need mounts and what not, but it also has more hp and torque, b16 is basically a direct bolt up swap but lags a lil in the bottom end

search button is helpful, this topic has been covered many times. try buying the GSR and building that...if you dont have the money than i would save up until you can afford exactly what you want to do.

they both go in exactly the same. b16 mounts will work on a b18 in a 96+ civic.

the b18c is a more fun engine to drive around for every day. it has a lot more low end to it than the b16. id suggest finding a b18c longblock and a type r tranny.
you will be very happy with that set up.

Get the B18C and build that.
There's no replacement for displacement.

I'm guessing 1 million but i'll have to check. All the threads end up with people yelling back and forth on b16 sucks and has no TQ and the single cam guys come in and say how they "smoke b16 fools" with their Z6.

Best bet is type in B16 in the search box and look though every single thread. Between all the BS there should be enough real comments and info for you to make a decision on what setup would be good for you.

b16 = will need to be built up to meet the power demands you probably have some say it's a better platform for turbo. it's cheaper.

b18 = immediate satisfaction of power demands. more exspensive, can be turbo'd but not exactly the best platfom.

both require almost the same stuff for install.

I decided to go b18

listen to somebody that had both....

when i first got my b16a it was fun till you get use to it. but later on i wasnt getting enough power and decided to go Turbo, that was a very awful experience.
Now im running stock b18c1 and very happy with its performance.

b18c1

I love the high redline on my b16, but the 10+ TQ on the b18c1 is nice...

I would go, b16, then 1 grand on a nice *** suspension... Well, decent sus...

The B18C1 has the same redline the B16 has.

'96 coupe is a heavy *** car if you dump a b16 with bolt-ons you will be lucky to cut into the 14's. now with a b18 with bolt-ons LOW 14's are possible.

i think the extra $1,000 are worth it. you could allways build a B18 to have more hp & trq then a B16 remember you have a heavy car you need high hp & trq #'s.

good luck with what ever you decide.

Man, I had both of them in two different EG's- Honestly my B16 seems more nibble and faster. The GSR was way Torquer (spelling?), but the b16 gets up faster, I think it's the tranny in the b16 is tighter then the gsr tranny -
