Axles...Autozone or no?

Axles...Autozone or no?
Needing to get new axles, or driveshafts, or whatever you want to call them. Just wondering if the ol' Autozone ones for ~$70 were good enough or get some OEM ones from hondapartscheap.com for ~$145?
Thanks for the help

Re: Axles...Autozone or no?
I buy local auto parts store axles that come with the lifetime warranty - because lifetime warranty. As I've replace the driver side axle 5 times and the passenger axle twice after the initial purchases, it's been well worth it over the years.

Re: Axles...Autozone or no?
Parts store axles come with a warranty, but they're fairly awful. Shakes, grease spewing out, etc.
I hate getting axle grease on my hands. Infact....I don't really like getting dirty at all working on cars...so I usually keep mine spotless/pressure wash before working on them.
So when axle grease shoots out all over my super fresh motor and trans...and I come to the realization that I will never be able to clean all of it off and I will inevitably experience some rubbing on my arm or just uglifying my car in general...it makes me so mad that I want to weep.
I had to return an axle to advance 3 times because the boots would bust, or they'd be shaky, or they'd make noise. All within months of buying them. The car was on ITR springs. So ot wasn't even low. After the 3rd time, they told me "no more returns". I felt that it was a shitty thing to say. It wasn't my fault their axles sucked so bad.
I try to find used OEM axles in good shape. Which is harder to do now, unfortunately.
I've heard reman'd ones are better than "new" ones, if you're buying parts store stuff.

Re: Axles...Autozone or no?
Worked at napa for years. We never seemed to have a problem with the new axles that they carry. they're about $100 each. I only ever warrantied one. Which wasn't sold to a customer. I recieved it in freight from the warehouse, inspected it, defected it out right away because the boot got ripped during shipping(box was smashed down a lot with a puncture).

I would go with "Empi" axles, I've had very good experience with them, I'm not sure about warranty but they never failed on a 92 b16 swapped civic and it ran great for 5 years after I have problems with OEM axles.

I've been planning on going with The Driveshaft Shop for my axles. 300 bucks for the upgraded OEM level 0 axles or 900 bucks for the level 2.9 axles rated for up to 475 WHP.
http://www.driveshaftshop.com/import-axles?cat=101
I was planning on the regular ones being they are redesigned to outlive OEM axles and I only plan on hitting close to 140 HP with a mini-me at some point.

The Autozone axles are perfectly fine. There are a TON of people street racing out here on them with drag radials wheel hopping down the street. If one fails, just warranty it. If your main concern in the boot tearing, unfortunately all boots tear over time. Even OEM ones.

DSS(driveshaft shop) are the ****! as far as price to quality goes I have the "level 0" ones on my integra and have never had any issues. Stood up to many time attack runs and abuse at CSCS last year and will again this year.

?? My advance auto boots tore after a month. And then again after 2 months. I was more angry about the grease that got slung everywhere. Ever dropped a palm onto some old, gritty, nasty axle grease a year after you think you got it all cleaned up?
Maybe I just had bad luck. Like 3 or 4 times over and over.
Or maybe other parts stores have better axles.
Or maybe other people aren't as good looking as me.
A lot of things are at play here.

Re: Axles...Autozone or no?
Yeah, mine and my friend's axles vibrated. His car was low...so...I GUESS there's some excuse. Mine was an EM1 with stock ITR springs. And it started vibrating like a few days after these axles were put in.
Idk. Don't wanna keep beating a dead horse here. I think you can have good or bad results with them. I did have a set of axles on my dirt/rally/Big air contest car that were fine. Then again, everything on that car vibrated so I'd never be able to tell.

Re: Axles...Autozone or no?
Anyway, if anyone is looking for a good used set of stock axles, I've had good luck with ebay seller "hondapartsunlimited".

Re: Axles...Autozone or no?
Duralast from Autozone it is then. With a name like Duralast, they must be awesome, they're durable AND they'll last!
I would like to get the DSS ones, just not in the budget right now.
Thanks for the input fellas

Re: Axles...Autozone or no?
Well, the axles seem to be just fine as far as everything looks in place and they fit.
The issue is that 2 lug studs broke - The DIY's I've found won't work to replace them.
Also, torn lower ball joint from taking the hub assembly off.
I reckon I'll call around tomorrow and see what it's going to cost to deal with that stuff and see if I can just find hub assemblies at the salvage yards.
Am I correct in thinking that Integra parts will work?

I've dealt with AutoZone axles several times. With the lifetime warranty, you have nothing to lose. Can't really compare to factory Honda units but whatever.

Don't use a pickle fork to break the taper on ball joints next time.
