Ok i have all ready tried a gun and i have broken a breaker bar. The passenger side came off easy but the driver side is a bitch. i was thinking about torching it what do you guys think. im not going to reuse the axles so if there is a way to cut them and get them out that will work.does anybody know another way.

heat it up wit a torch... or take it to a shop to loosen it up for you...then drive home slowly and take it off

I have read alot of post about people having trouble with axel nuts....I have never had trouble with them. pb blaster, torch, impact wrench, breaker bar.
i used a breaker bar and a jack. i sprayed with pb blaster for 2 days one time.

soak it with pb blaster, hit it with a GOOD impact gun.

i kept breaking wrenches, and the impact wasn't cutting it. so i had my socket welded to a piece of bar stock. worked like a charm

haha..i have the same problem but with both axles....i actually went to home depot and bought a 6ft pipe to use as a cheater bar with my breaker bar and i had no luck... i need to rebuild my axles so i guess imma have to do it with my car on stans and me under the car...

i broke 2 of my breaker bars, 3 1/2 wrenches trying to take that friggin nut off..take your car to a local tire shop...tell them u want them to loosen the nut...i did htis back then..they did it in 2mins top...free of charge if you lucky...

dude that said warp rotors, of course he is going to remove them............hub bearings are bitches, you may have a too small compressor for you're gun ie cfm not enough to give tou tourque, never use a torch f that, did you remove the cotter pin

I broke another breaker bar and i turned up the psi on my compressor and sprayed the hell out of it and it still wouldnt budge. so i literally had to use 4 different tipes of chissels and take a small drill bit and drill 4 holes in the nut close together and start hitting the **** out of it.

keep spraying pb blaster on it for the next few days...
and go buy yourself a new breaker bar...


it will come out without a problem
you just have to be patience

be careful with a torch that you dont burn the wheel bearings then you have another problem .I took mine to a garage gave him 10-15 and had him break it loose my home compressor wouldnt do it but the garage didnt have a problem

</TD></TR></TABLE>Why Take the rotors off if you dont need to? You can access the axel nut with out taking the rotor off and there is no cotter pin over the axel nut...the only cotter pin is the lower ball joint and he hasent got to that part yet

is the nut still staked by any chance

does not matter if it is staked...The stake just prevents the nut from backing off the axle...the stake in the nut is not going to hold the nut on if you are tourqing it off

hey now that we're talking about axles, anyone ever have trouble getting an axle out of the hub, the one on my civic is frozen. I tried hammering it out but now the end is a litte mushroomed

yes, i've tried everything short of putting them in the press at work, the only reason i haven't is because they wont sit (i tried). cant wait to get rid of this car

3/4 inch drive ratchet and sockets i use for axle nuts , no problems with 3/4 inch drive. ive broken at least a dozen 1/2 inch drive ratchets getting axle nuts off. they suck without 3/4 inch drive. that homemade breaker bar is mint man , nice goin.

I have. It took 17 000 pounds of pressure to pop that thing out(on the press). Messed up the thread real bad and it costed me an axle.

how did you get it to sit. i attempted to put it on the 100 ton at work, but couldn't get it to set flat. i think this is my last option, and i don't want to go to the you pull yard and roll in the mud

My trusty mechanic took a steal pipe that was something like 4" in diameter and 6-7" long. He cut it in half(along the length), and he welded those 2 parts about 2"apart on a steal plate. That was used to hold the assy
