automatic transmission install
Hi, this is my 1st time doing an auto tranny install. stupid me, i didn't do my research, and slapped on the tq converter just like you do a clutch. we wiggled the transmission onto the motor and it went in pretty smooth. there was less than 1/2" gap between the motor and block and we just used the bolts and tightened it up.
now i just looked at the FSM, and it says to pour 1 liter of ATF into the tq converter. Then it says to put the tq converter in the TRANNY, and then install the tranny onto the motor and then tighten the bolts for the tq converter.
i didn't lose much ATF when i took off the tq converter so i'm not too worried about that part, but i'm afraid the tq converter may not have aligned onto the "input shaft" properly.
have you guys done it my way? if so, were there any problems?

Re: automatic transmission install (SRd240sx)
WOW THAT SUCKS. you basicaly need to go it all over again. the torque converter needs to be filled with atf like you said, then it needs to be attached to the tranny and THEN mounted up to the motor.
if you wait till after the install to fill everything its gonna take something like 8 quarts of atf to fill

Re: automatic transmission install (97gsrjames)
i talked to JWT and they said it could be done either way, but the proper way is to do it the FSM way. just wondering if anyone did it "my" way and had any problems that's all
