Default auto to manual problem need help

got a 96 cx hatch that some one did a auto to manual swap on before i got it when i put my motor in and tried starting it i smelt smoke and seen it from the center consol so i took it off and the person before me didnt wire it rite. they wired the two fat wires to a ground so it was shorting out and melted the wire all the way through the harness and my ecu got pretty hot to touch by plug A.fixed all the wiring and tried starting it. I get fuel ,spark but wont start. could i have fried my ecu from the ground shorting out? please help dont want to buy another p73 ecu if i dont need it

without looking at the actual wiring job, the best i can say is that its possible. I am not 100% familiar with the wiring design, and having someone else throw something in doesnt help. a short can fry a lot if left unchecks, but hopefully he kept any wiring through the fusebox where its supposed to be so the fuse should (SHOULD) have blown before that.

In other words... its a possibility. pull the cover on the ECU, look for black marks or melted/deformed area, and check to see if anything else is FUBAR that might be tied to the ECU.

only way to tell is open the ecu and look at the board for burns. other then that we have no way to know whether its fried or not. if all the wiring is good its most likely fried. see if u can borrow an ecu even an automatic ecu should start the car but wont idle well and may surge.
