Default ATTN: Tom & all you trim painters out there...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">One-way clips would be the biggest reason for not removing the side moldings. Once you pull those out they break 9 out of 10 times, thus costing you a lot of money in buying new moldings</TD></TR></TABLE> B18C5-EH2

Tom,
First off, if you break a clip they are replaceable, they aren't part of the side moldings. Second off, all you need is a pair of pliers and a phillips head screwdriver (edit: and a 10mm socket) to remove all the side moldings.
By removing the door panels, you can gain access to the backside of the trim, you'll see the clips on the inside of the door, they look like this . . .

squeeze on these with pliers and they push right out.

like so.

to remove the side moldings on the fenders you'll need to take your handy screwdriver to the splash guard to get your hand and a pair of pliers in there... the trim on the fender would appear to have two clips. but it's really one plastic clip that fits into the two slots in the fender.... anyways this one is more fragile than the others so just dont yank on it...

if you're like anthony you can feel free do a spinning kick of death because you don't have to figure out how to get to the trim pieces on the quarter panels since you have no interior.

so when you get done you are left with something that resembles a trimless car... or a CX with all kindsa crazy square holes in it.

Now you can paint your trim pieces well away from your car.

owned.

use this stuff...

all we did was clean and lightly sand the trim with a fine grit sandpaper.
just follow the directions on the can, we put 3 coats on the trim over the course of 24 hours.

if you really dont want to try taking off your trim you can try B18C5-EH2's method shown below...

just make sure you do a flying jump kick to make your trim look all snazzy.

PEACE

I want them!

I got the moldings but no clips. Lost them somewhere and don't want to pay $40 something for some clips.

hahaha! PHOTOCHROP!!!

I'll have better finished pics soon. The trim is back on the car, but laggin on the pics.

-remove trim with pliers applying light pressure so as to not break the clips
-lightly sand the trim with fine sand paper
-wash trim with water
-dry trim (no lint)
-using paint spray recommended by Tom (pic) spray the trim followinginstructions on the rattler
-spray 3-5 coats or as many as you want
-lightly sanding between coats (paint must be dry; my can was a quick dry so maybe 1 hour in between coats is okay, but if it isn't quick dry 12 hours should suffice) would prove the best results. I didn't do this, but a great tip.
-install trim
-do 7-8 flying kicks of death

Anthony

Sup man...I have 3 of either #23 and 1 of #19 brand new still in packaging......plus to save you money try and reuse as many clips as you can off of your old moldings and the nut for each door molding #25...but if you want the ones I have i'll give them to ya all for like $7 shipped! That's a little over half off!
