im having an issue with my 93 civic automatic transmission...can someone answer some of my questions for me..i will greatly appreciate it.

1. my car will not go into reverse..what is the reason for this.
2. sometimes my transmission will not change gears, and i will be redlining for like 5 mins or so..b4 it does change gears.
3. i think my transmission has gone bad, will a 88-91 civic ex transmission work with my motor..i have a d16y7, will this require some work? or is it like plug and play. i have done about 10 tranny jobs on my crx, so i know how to drop and put a new one in.


thanx in advance guys...and btw: i have check the tranny fluid, there is some in there, and like 3 weeks ago i put about 3 quarts in..k thx.

1 tranny might be messed up or torque converter is shot
3 no wont fit the older trannies are cable as the d16y is hydro

92-00 tranny would work.

sorry man. Your tranny is fucked. my legend did the same thing it would rev really high in 1st then switch to 3rd and wouldnt go into 4th. drove it like that for a while till one day it wouldnt get out of 1st. I had to shell out $900 for a tranny. Did the work myself so I saved on labor. Don't trip though yours shouldnt cost that much. hopefully

Hey man, I'm in GA, and I have a perfect 93 EX automatic tranny sitting in my garage. It came out of my brother's EG Coupe when I did the swap for him. It shifts great, has 90k miles, and comes with the torque converter, starter, and VSS. Make me an offer!

That's what happens when you never get your transmission flushed. I'll bet the fluid that comes out looks like brown Jello.

By the way. Who the hell drives their car for 5 minutes at redline in any gear? The simple fact that you've done it at least once removes all sense of sympathy I may have had.

All AUTOMATIC transmissions are cable operated. It's called a shift cable. You're thinking 5spd man. The reason the 88-91 tranny won't work is because the front, top, and rear tranny mounts are completely different than the 92-00, and the tranny case is a different casting. And I doubt if his engine is a D16Y-anything, as that was an EK engine...
