to anyone with installed EK navigation. [56k no]
alright so this question has been asked about a thousand times... i got the ek4 navigation... yippie. its complete with EVERYTHING. all wires, harness's, media box(brain), climate controls, tape deck, navigation cd, and cupholder. (could be worthy for the rare parts thread)
this will be going into a 99 hatch btw.
hopefully jon will be able to help me out here.
ok so i know the radio harness in the 99-00 is different from the 96-98 and that gets plugged into the tape deck. so im going to have to cut and splice or pick up the 96-98 harness... the vents and the metal behind the old climate controls are already cut apart and removed due to my old EK9 climate controls (thats what im replacing this with)
now i tried to hook the climate control wires up and only one plug fits. since the 96-98 was all on slide mech's and the 99-00 was all **** controls the wiring harness's are a lil different. the rear defrost is on a seperate plug on the navi and on the 99-00 its built into the actual system so there is no extra wires...
would i be better off picking up a 96-98 wire harness and try pieceing them together to get this thing working? jon how did u manage to get everything working correctly? online manual anywhere? feedback please. AIM: tsunami1asia0

UPDATE! 11-12-05
alright so i was pissing aorund with the wiring again and i think i have a nice lead to what goes where. there is a few wires i have no idea about and a few i think i know but im not going to say for sure.
start by taking a look at the back of the navigation unit and the back of the media box. both of these plugs had the same color wires and they were interchangable to i figure they were a match:
one down!
here is a shot of the back of the tape deck. you can see the stereo harness plugs right into the center of the unit. on the right is the white harness that goes to the media box, and on the left is the unknown plug i think plugs into the navi unit:
ok looking at the other plugs on the back of the navigation i have came up with these conclusions:
the black small plug i have marked (???) has 7 wires comming form it:
black, red/black, green/black, yellow/red, blue/white, white/blue(x2)
after taking a look at the one i have marked (unknown on tape deck) i notice that the harness on the tape deck holds the same wire theme. so im pretty sure im going to make a jump harness to run those 2 together.
the RGB wire im not 100% sure but im pretty positive thats what its for.
the heater controls and remote controls is 100% positive because it was all hooked in when recieving the unit.
moving on to the media box and harness...
this was obviously mounted somewhere near the rear of the car. the harness connected to this box is about 10 feet long. in the picture you will see i have the 2 plugs already marked:
now taking a look at the 10foot long harness comming form the media box it has a bunch of connectors attached to it making the harness longer.. there is 3 plugs on this cable and all 3 are the same.. one to the media box, one to the tape deck and the other one? little help here guys. haha im thinking navigation unit? but i cant find a plug with matching wires. also the 2 harness's are close together... i had a thought it was maybe for cd changer? but those are usually trunk mounted and there is not enough cable to make that run. but maybe im wrong?
UPDATE!
i happened to stumble across another navigation unit for sale on ebay. comes with the complete harness that connects the tape dect to the navigation unit! so it looks like i was correct but now i need to find out what goes where. it looks to me as if the middle harness in the back of the tape deck was not for connecting it to the main stero. i emailed the guy asking if he would part with the harness... i highly doubt it but it didnt hurt to ask. *crossing fingers*

Re: (.saint)
bro have this moved to the audio/video forum, there's a guy there who's constantly lookin for work and also helps out whenever you can, I'm pretty sure he can give you diagrams. I can give you his username but from what I remembered he got banned and he made a new name. There was a guy here a month earlier having the same problems with your navi but this guy had NO main harnesses unlike yours. He brought it to this dude's shop and was able to hardwire everything w/o any schematics and the wiring was clean as hell
