Anyone Else Have A Problem With A/C Turning Itself On?
Okay, so this sounds extremely odd, but since owning my 2000 EJ8, I've noticed it do this a couple of times.
So, usually the situation where it does this is when I have my heat, recirculate, and rear defrost on. I'll do this, look down and somewhere along looking away, A/C turns on and recirculate turns off.
I don't think it's just me hitting the wrong buttons because it's happened a few times. Also, when I would turn my stuff on, wouldn't I notice my usual two orange buttons on rather than an orange and my green A/C on?
Just wondering if it happens to anyone else or it's it's just a weird phenomenon happening to just me. I mean, if it is and someone has a solution hit me up, if not it's no biggie, just wondering.

I think the A/C turns itself on if you are using any defrost/defog modes as it helps to remove moisture - A/C makes defrost/defog work much, much better. Even if you've got the temp set to full hot having the A/C button pressed greatly improves defrost/defog function.
I don't know if this is a built-in feature on your Civic, but it is on later model Hondas for sure.
EDIT:
My 2005 Honda Element does in fact turn recirculate off, and A/C on if I do nothing more than select the defrost/defog mode on the vent mods dial.

Here I just confirmed my suspicion by looking it up in the 1996-2000 Honda Civic Service Manual.
I am quoting directly from page 21-2 in the illustrated index portion of the climate control/heater section of the manual, bottom of the page:
Defroster-activated A/C System
Turning the defroster on activates the A/C and sets the air flow mode to FRESH. It is possible to turn the A/C off or to change the air flow to RECIRCULATE by pressing the A/C button or the FRESH/RECIRCULATE button.
