Another Si hit....
Well, I was involved in my first car accident last night. A DUI hit the side of my Si. Police sited him of course. No body was hurt. Everyone had insurance.
Here are pics of my Si. My questions are: Oh, not seen in the pics is a vertical crease in the fender just in front of the fuel door.....
How do bodyshops repair this? Do they buy a new rear quarter panel, and cut my old one off? Where do they get the quarterpanel from? Or do they simply fill in the damaged area with bondo, sand it down, and repaint?
Also now my steering wheel is about 5 degrees off center. Another words, when driving straight, the wheel is crooked about 5 degrees. How would getting hit in the rear knock my steering out?
Anyone know the paintcode for this car? Electron Blue Pearl?
Thanks

Re: Another Si hit....
Body shop can repair this easily. I've seen a 2007 Acura TL in this situation at my cousins shop and they repaired it in a few days w/ paint.
I don't know how much the cost would estimate to be though.

When i was co-op at a body shop, they would try to pull this out, if they can't cut and weld in a new quarter panel, filling that with bondo would just crack over time,

Damn, that sucks man. But atleast you weren't hurt(I personally wouldn't have cared at all if the drunk was hurt but I see he wasn't). It can be fixed although I don't know exactly how it would be done, I would think they would most likely need to cut that out and weld in another 1/4. I just had my car in the body shop and repainted not quite a month ago and I had a dent in my drivers side 1/4 panel but not nearly that bad and they welded studs in and pulled it all out.
Good luck with everything.
Good luck with everything.

If they cut the 1/4 panel out and weld in a new one, where do they find the new 1/4 panel? Is it a factory new car or from a junker? Also, wouldn't the areas where they cut the panel be prone to rust?
Also, why would my steering wheel not be centered now? It is off like 5 degrees when the car is going straight....
Is the EBP color easy to match if they don't paint the whole car?
I am supposed to get the Police report tomorrow and then call the DUIs insurance (Guide One). Hope this all works out.

Re: Another Si hit....
most shops would problaly just get one from a scrapyard around here. with insurance fix though it may be new. did the car get jerked onto a curb or something causing the wheel to be jammed missaligning the front end?

Nope, I never hit a curb or anything. The front bumper of the other car did slightly touch the left rear wheel/tire though. Not sure why this would affect the steering though....

Re: Another Si hit....
the bodyshop could either cut the 1/4 panel or pull dent out and get it mostly straight the use a little bit of filler, theres nothing wrong wit body filler as long as they pull the dent out and they get it as straight as they can before putting it on, just make sure u take it to a good shop so they dont do any dirty jobs. also about the rust the body shops use or should use a self etch primer on all bare metal spots bringing the rust protection back to factory protection. if they do a 1/4 panel replacement they are gonna cut the whole thing off meaning they gotta take the side window off and remove all the spot welds, dont let a shop just section in a new piece of a 1/4 panel, get the whole 1/4 for a good job

Re: Another Si hit....
the paint code should be on the sticker in your driver door. its something like P28B? could be wrong though. the body shop will know where to get it

Re: Another Si hit....
Well the thing is when they weld on a new quarterpanel they dont just cut and weld... they drill out the old spot welds then weld the new one on

Re: Another Si hit....
If it is a good bodyshop you shouldn't be able to tell where they cut in a new quarter panel. Check your gaps when you get it back from the bodyshop. Your alignment being off is typical. Make sure they do a 4 wheel alignment on your car. If they can get it aligned then something is bent or off and will need to be replaced.

Man, sorry to hear that. I hate drunk drivers. Good luck with the repair and getting the insurance to pay for it everything. Glad to hear you're alright.

Re: Another Si hit....
a body shop will bang the dent out and then cover it with bondo and repaint it. your steerign wheel is off because the hit probably knocked you out of alignment or could have done other damage possibly to your suspension. since its his fault go to a good quality auto body shop and have them fix it
