Double-clutching is when you push the clutch all the way in, pull the car out of gear, let the clutch out, then push the clutch back in while rev-matching, downshift, and release the clutch. It takes a lot of practice. It is used on old transmissions that don't have synchros, and by people who watch too many Vin Diesel movies. It can still be used to skip gears on cars with lockouts (say downshifting from 5th to 2nd on last-gen GM F-bodies), but as far as I know does nothing for most modern imports, and does nothing in drag racing, since in drag racing you only upshift. The only thing I've noticed is that it makes it slightly easier to get it back in a lower gear, but that's probably more a product of rev-matching than double-clutching.

Oh, I forgot to say that it shouldn't be bad for your clutch, but it can make it easier to mess up your engine and/or transmission if you're not careful. Since double clutching bypasses the lockout (on some cars), and makes it easier to downshift at higher RPMs (on all cars), it's fairly easy to downshift into too low a gear, and come out at 10000 rpm or so, which is not healthy for most engines or transmissions. Just don't be stupid with it (try to downshift too far) and you'll be fine.

The question was answered early, get a strong enough motor and you probably won't have to worry about need to "double clutch." I don't think it helps to be honest, perhaps it does.

Pretty lame question though dog...
