Default another clutch problem

First off my car is a 92 ex sedan. Okay last night I was driving home and I was going to shift to 4th and just as I was about to shift I heard like a popping sound from the front of the engine. After that it was very hard to push in the clutch and even when I did push it all the way down it didn’t engage the clutch. So I had to drive without the clutch for a few blocks. So my question is what could the problem be the master or slave cylinder or something to do with the actual clutch. I still haven’t had time to look at it myself. If you guys could give me some suggestions of what it could be would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
