3 years as a member here and I'm guessing you've never noticed that there was an FAQ stickied right at the top of the forum.

Also to do ignition timing you need to have the car running. So if it doesn't start...

So back up. It ran fine before what?

Provide as much info as you can please. Right now you haven't provided much.
Is it a crank but no start or is it a no crank at all situation?

put ur car at top dead center, take ur distributor off and theirs lines on the back of it where the shaft connects to the cam that u got to line up( wish i had a good pick to show u ) i'v found that pretty ez otherwise take ur distributor cap off and point the rotor to number 1 spark plug wire on the cap while ur motor at tdc.

We do need more info bro, there are too many variables.

Is the car cranking, but just won't start? It could be your main relay.
If it's a 92-95, take the plastic cover under your steering wheel and look right above the hood release latch. There's a small gray box with red/brown connector (mainly yellow/blue wires on connector). The box is held in place by a 10mm bolt. That's the main relay.

Take it with you inside and let it cool down near an AC vent or something. Then take it back outside and see if the car starts. If she does, follow this procedure and the issue should be resolved:

Good luck,

-Walter

i see he said
"Car had ran fine before
First thing I did was Replace the whole distributor and rotor

so from that i can tell it was running till he changed the distributor and since he said on second post that he pretty much forgot to time it that sounds like the problem to me

So if it ran fine before why did the distributor need to be changed?

I was driving, i shifted to second, then shifted to third. When i hit third my car died and now it won't start. It will try to crank over, but it won't start. replaced the alternator not too long ago and the battery should be fine, any ideas?

Precisely

I messed the distributor by power washing motor. (completely my fault) The car is a 99 civic with a gsr swap

Sorry for my miss information

Today I pulled off the valve cover and and the plastic covering near the cam gear. I also noticed the timing belt is really worn so i will replace that as well. Then time the motor and put the rotor on the 1 spot of the distributor. Unfortunately the parts store is now closed so will have to wait until tomorrow. Will keep you guys updated.

Wait, so you aren't getting any spark? or are you and it still isn't starting? You really didn't say that much about it. My hatch was doing the same thing, if you can get a multimeter and if the distributer is even getting power. If that is working and everything, then i'd look at the main relay to see if that is working.

I guess the question still stands unanswered.
What kind of no start condition are we talking about?
Starts but won't turn over or doesn't start period?

I asked this before but you told me I was useless.

Alright ill go through the whole thing. First the car has no charge on the battery so I did have jumper cables hooked up to it ( dont know if this is relevant)

The car hadn't been turned on for a bit because i was waiting for the new radiator to come in because of a leak in the old one.

I replaced radiator and hooked everything up.

I tried turning the car on but it wouldn't start. the car cranks but no start.

I checked to see if i was getting spark. I was not.

So what i decided was to replace the whole distributor and see if that was the problem. i set the motor at TDC and then put the distributor at the 1 spark. After that i tried turning the car on and still wont start.

Its cranks but don't start.

A side note is that i can hear an odd noise near the ECU.

Running a jumper harness to a obd1 Ecu from and obd2 interior harness.

Anymore questions i will gladly answer them.

I checked with multimeter the black and yellow wire to see if power is coming from battery and it is.

Where is the main relay located on 99 civic ex.

I bought a brand new distributor. I checked the ground on the thermostat housing looks good to me but i will disconnect clean it up and see what happens then. I got some college classes right now so wont be till later on.

Thanks for the help.

Well i cleaned off the ecu ground and reconnected it and nothing.

I also tried changing the main relay and nothing.

My last thoughts are that the ecu is faulty or the jumper harness. (if this doesn't work straight to the junkyard for this piece of sh*t)
