Amount of power AT can hold?
I searched but didn't come up with anything. Searching for "transmission" or "automatic transmission" turns up a lot of posts, but nothing seemed to answer what I was looking for, so if someone has already addressed this, I apologize.
Anyways, the whole reason of this post is to ask this question...
I have a 97 Civic DX with the stock engine and an AT. No, not my choice. It's my girlfriend's old car, and it's free. I don't want to make huge hp numbers or set any 1/4 mile records. I just want a little more power. I'm going to do some sort of swap in the spring, but I'm not sure how much power it's safe to put through the stock transmission. I'm going to use the car as my daily driver, so reliability is a big priority. I'm not against beefing up the transmission a little if needed, but I don't want to spend a ton of money.
So, any input will be greatly appreciated...
BTW, I think this is my first post here. I'm not new to modifying cars - THIS is my previous car, just sold on Monday - just new to Hondas.

Really just about any engine swap that mates up to that tranny -the tranny will hold up to the power. I have seen street cars with automatics running in the 12's with turbo -and the stock trans had seem to be holding up for a while.

Re: Amount of power AT can hold? (93CX)
I had thought about that, but my girlfriend can't drive a manual, and to be honest, an old hockey injury in my left knee makes me thankful for an automatic these days. Also, I'm on the road a lot, and of course most of that time I'm talking on the phone, so an automatic just makes more sense for me.

Our loaner car is automatic for that reason. Not everyone can drive a manual at all times (injury, etc).
We dropped in a B20 w/B16A auto tranny -stock. It is actually a decent upgrade for the car. Still will walk a few manual swapped cars for some of those that don't drive well.

Cool. That's just what I wanted to hear. And, you're not that far from me, so next spring I just might be paying you a visit.....
