Am i being scammed??????????????????????
went to an alarm shop today called "AL and EDS" , its a pretty big company.
I just ordered a detachable steering wheel from someone on Honda Tech.
I also ordered the "Autolock X" , a hi-tech lock for the pedals, which just came out.
Now i want 2 kill switches and and a not too pricey alarm ($200-300 range, no more)
So the guy at the shop has some kinda "know it all attitude, kinda like hes right now matter what you say" For example ...heres the convo..
Him : So what brings you here today?
Me : Do you guys do kill switches
Him: Sure
Me: Yea, im thinking of getting two
**he interrupts*
Him: NO. THeres no point in getting two, its the same with just one, my advice is the Clifford 450 alarm whcih comes with the switch too, (then he goes on talking about it, its $650 installed)
**5 minutes later*
Me:Well thats over my budget anything in the 300-400 range you recommend?
Him: Not annything that will keep your car from getting stolen
Me: uhhhhh.....(long pause)...so how about the kill switches . why is 2 not a good idea
Him: **kinda beats around the bush , then gets back to the Clifford alrarm**
Basically, its like the only thing he wants to sell...wtf?
Then i asked him how much it would cost to find out whats wrong with my reciever..since i was dumb enoguh to let my freind try to install my new amps, now the reciver only works in the morning, when the car is cold, the rest of the day it turns on, but the speakers wont work ,weird
Him: Its 65 dollars an hour to fix!
WTF!!! Isnt that more than what a dam doctor makes???
Me: So, what if you cant find out what the problem is, do i still have to pay
Him: No. Usually why find out the problem within an hour or so.
Me: Well , what if it takes more than an hour, i dont wanna end up paying 199+ dolalrs to fix a dam reciever. Ill pay 60-80 dollars just to fix my stereo, no more.
Ok, im going to look around. *then i leave*
oh yeah , and also , when i mentioned the detachable steering wheel , he shook his head, as if they sucked..wtf?

hmmm...you usually know within 30 secs. to 1 min. if you like the "feel" of a shop, etc. If you don't like the shop, don't do business there and if you want 2 kill switches you can buy them seperately and then just pay someone you feel comfortable with for the install. I wasn't really sure what your question was.

Re: Am i being scammed?????????????????????? (MikeHock)
buddy just told me. Alarms are worthless..thats why i dont wanna spend too much on an alarm..
In order for a thief to steal my caar..
he needs my exact steering wheel , no other can fit into my hub, each one is different
Then he needs to find kill switch under the dash and then one under the hood (good luck w\ that)
Then he needs to disable the alarm ( easiest part)
Then he needs to go throught he clutch lock

AS for my speakers/reciever
When my freind tried to install the subs, all speakers in the car went blank. Now the speakers only work when the car is cold in the morning, but once i turn the car off once, bye bye noise...until the next monring. My subs arent even connected right now.

Re: (Hawd)
Peace of mind ? professional ? professional kill switch installer ?
dude, there's a wire, you cut it, you attach a switch to it so it cut the power and you hide it somewhere. in my old hatch, I put one underneath the back seat, I sorta had to pull it up and it was against the wall, plus it was right next to the full pump.
and why would you hide a switch under your hood ? are you seriously going to to pop you hood everytime you want to start/leave your car ?
here's how I did mine, great How to: http://www.courtlukens.com/cutoff_switch.htm
it's fun to do ****, plus NO ONE will know where it is. you trust those stupid kids working at that place ? they have all your info, so they know where you live and they know how to get around your **** cause they installed it.

Lol that **** is too much. I bought my alarm from http://www.asianwolf.com for 200 + SH. The alarm I got is a DEI (Directed Electronics Inc) Hornet 554T. They are the same manufacturer of the widely known Viper alarms. We installed it by ourselves and took about 3 hours. Mainly around 1 1/2 to install the wires and 1 1/2 dicking around with the settings and remote start. Asianwolf now has the updated version which is called the Valet 554R w/ turbo timer function for 179. Even if the price is cheaper I never regret getting my alarm/remote start.
YOu can install it yourself and get the wiring codes at http://www.the12volt.com under vehicle information. Goodluck.
BTW: The shops will try to rip you off so better do it just yourself. I tried shopping around locally in the So Cal area and they try to charge me 500 + installation. Screw that!

Re: Am i being scammed?????????????????????? (REDGEAR)
I also installed my alarm myself.. Now thats peace of mind.
If you know how to do it yourself I'd say go for it... If not I'd rather have a friend help me than take it to a "alarm shop."
I dont know about you but I wouldnt trust any of those guys with my car. Just from that attitude you know they are not going to put much effort into getting the job done right. Plus any shop that will install an alarm will put it in the same place and splice into the same wires in the same place. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of the alarm.
But make sure you don't let the friend who "installed" your audio stuff try to install your alarm. Get someone who knows their **** when it comes to electronics, preferably someone older..
Good luck with whatever you decide to do..
