Default all 99-00 Si owners!

i've got a question for all of you 99-00 Si owners. do you ever have problems with it starting? every once and a while it takes mine a while to start (about 5-6 seconds of cranking the starter). then when it starts...it idles really rough and low...but then goes to normal. I'm just wondering if anyone else's does this and if anyone knows what could cause this. and also...when its EXTREMELY cold out and i start my si and let off the clutch..it sometimes actually DIES. anyone have this problem??

Mine does the same thing. I'm hoping it's the fact that I need new sparkplugs. I've got over 40,000 miles and I've never changed the spark plugs.

My 00 si used to do almost the same thing it just didnt idle rough, when i replaced the distributor cap, rotor button, and spark plugs the problem stopped you might want to check your fuel pump to you might not be getting enough gas when your cranking it which my be the reason for the rough idle. Hope this helps you out

my car did the same and it turned out to be the spark plugs.... I guess that what I get fro trying to use a disck to gap my plugs instead of the wire kind that honda sugests

Mine does the same thing when is low on fuel.

No! I don't mean really low, my gas light is not on yet, but te gauge points to E. Other than that starts just fine.

The only time my SI would have some problems starting is when it was really cold outside and I started it in the morning for the first time. After that, it ran perfect.

just so you guys know they had a recall on the 99-00 model civics becuase there might be a wire messed up in the ignition. So if I were you guys just go to the dealership and have them check it out, my 3 of my friends have 2000's and had the same problem, they took it up there, and got it fixed for free becuase it was a recall. so check it out and your problems will be more than likely solved.

Just turn your key on til' you see your CEL. (On position).

Leave it there for 5 seconds, then crank it, it will start right away every single time.

I have 35k miles on my 2000 SI and no problems yet. You're plugs should still be good even at 40k miles, but check them. Recall, I never received anything in the mail from Honda/my dealer regarding any recalls..

that same thing happens to me, even when i wait for the CEL light to go off i wait every time i start my car and it still happens not every time though, every once in a while. i hoped changing spark plugs would help but it still happens with the cranking forever and rough idling and all. i have 21,000 miles on the 2K si and bosch platinum 4 spark plugs still happens, my friend has a 99ek hatch and he got recalled on the ignition, then i called honda and they said i should be fine so iono...

Mine does that like every once in a great while...best thing to do is turn the key to the "on" position and wait a few seconds while the injectors "prime" themselves.

mine does it when its cold i live in phoenix so not often...it takes like 3 seconds to start well it used to. but i replaced my battery and havent had a problem since. But that was just my car. But i had posted a while back on my idle being high right when i start it and thats normal but CONSISTANTLY doing it could be other things.

With only 27k miles on your car, your plugs should be fine. Check them anyway.. Car hasn't even been broken in yet..

Yeah, my '00 does the starting thing occasionally... but it doesn't idle rough. It seems to happen if it's really low on fuel or if it ran harder than normal immediately before stopping.
