Air filter question
Okay, I have kind of a weird question, how bad is it for a car to run with no air filter?
The reason why I ask is because today, my sister brought over her car for me to change the oil, and her filter had fallen off. It was a ram air intake and I guess her fiance didn't put it on right or something.
It could have been running like that for up to a month, so I'd just like to know, how much damage could have been done?

Re: Air filter question (Fugeeu)
If the car is still running fine, don't worry about it. Now, if something did happen to go wrong, she would have noticed when her engine blew up. (worst case senario) The only thing that probably happen was a few bugs got into the intake pipe and then were chard to **** when the fired.

The worst case scenario deals with scarred aluminum around the valves (bad sealing and, thus, no power or fuel economy) and/or scars on the walls of the cylinders (oil blowby, oil contamination) due to small sand/stone/organic particles getting into the airstream.
Odds are, though, that nothing happened. I ran open TB for about six months until recently on my 253k mile Z6 and nothing happened.
