Default air conditioning in 96-00 EK Civics good or not?

I'm considering getting an EK sedan (EX or LX) for a daily driver.

Just wondering what people's experience is with the air conditioning. Is it adequate in hot climates, etc?

My previous car, an EM1, was pretty weak, even after replacing most of the components and refrigerant, etc. It was cold when the car was cold, but after sitting in the sun all day it was pretty useless. I need better AC. My wife's 2001 CRV is great; I know it has a full-width condenser.

Your question is too subjective and ambiguous.

I've had a number of 96-00 civic;s with a/c as well as a 97 crv (which uses a civic compressor btw), they have all work great!! These cars are a little older now, sometimes a recharge is in order

My car (1995 del sol) has a tiny condenser and it get freezing cold inside (39 degree vent temps). Any car that has been sitting in the sun is going to take a bit to get cold inside.
I think the trick to getting cold A/C in a good mechanical condition system is charging with exact amount (weight) of freon and oil required and making sure no other elements (contaminants) exist withing the system (moisture etc.) by pulling a deep vacuum first.
You want that compressed refrigerant to turn to gas at the optimum point in your evaporator. You also want the condenser to remove heat as efficiently as possible.
I know someone who has a 1998 EX coupe and the A/C works great.

ha ha ha, great for me means "comfortable", even when it's crazy hot outside. To be able to bring the atmosphere inside the car below room temperature

Some googling suggests the 6th-gen civic's AC is about 14000 BTU; that'd be considered appropriate for about a 500 square-foot room in a house, but obviously, the civic will be much less well-insulated, which is why it's rated so high. I'd say the Civic's AC is adequate in the 1st row seats where the vents can be pointed right at you on a very hot (> 95'F) and sunny day, but probably marginal in the 2nd row as it is with any car that has no rear-row AC vents. Other variables are the paint color (dark, light?) and amount/kind of window tint.

Are you kidding? There's absolutely no comparison between no A/C and working A/C when it's hot.

Is there a tech question in this thread?? If not, it will be closed.

I can attest to that. This summer has been brutal.
