Icon7 aftermarket throttle body sizes

I have a jdm d15b sohc vtec, and I'm lookin to upgrade my TB, but I'm not sure which size to get. I have a blox-racing intake manifold/hondata IM gasket spacer. I've searched but couldn't find what I'm lookin for. Sizes range anywhere from 60mm-70mm.

TIA,
Steve-O

Dont upgrade your throttle body unkless your engine is gonna see some love. On a fully stock motor, a bigger throttlebody will only add slightly better throttleresponse, since It still has to go through a stock bore intake and stock sized plenums and ports.

Save your money. If its more for cosmetics then performance, Id just take the TB off and clean it up really good, polish, whatever.

agreed, your just kinda creating turbulance and if anything you will lose power by doing that. if you wanna do something cool, get a thick *** spacer and put a spiral on it, compressing the air on the way in making it dense. just a thought.

I would go no bigger than 60mm with that setup. You'll have a nice anti-reversion step, and you will still have decent resolution with pedal throw.

Although, in my opinion, even that is too big. The stock 56mm throttle body is all you need right now.

cool thanks for the input guys, I wouldn't upgrade for a little while though, I gotta prioritize. My motor will be seeing plenty of love soon(not so much building the motor), I should be getting it tuned in the next month or so with plans of boost (the the more airflow the better, ya know?).

The motor currently has a blox racing intake manifold and hondata spacer and a crower cam, so do you still think upgrading to a larger is bad? I'm also running headers back exhaust (2.5") with no cat.

once again, thanks for the advice.

The camshaft will increase airflow at higher speeds, but I still think that anything over 60mm is overkill. Unless you're building a car that will only see drag strips, it's important to have a throttle body that provides more resolution than more (potential and often not attained) airflow.

I suggest waiting until you have a reliable turbo system, then worry about the throttle body diameter.

excellent thank you very much.

once turbo'd though, I mean, the bigger the better, right?

"The bigger the better" is rarely true, and when it is, it's a compromise. In this case, a larger throttle body could provide slightly more top-end power, but your low-end and your throttle resolution might be adversely affected. Obviously with a dedicated drag car, these don't matter as long as transient response isn't affected as well.

There is no easy answer, since it will depend on the compressor, boost pressure, VE curve, and the redline of your engine. Regardless, you'd be surprised how much an OEM throttle body can flow before it becomes a restriction.
